leveling DKFollow

#1 Nov 02 2009 at 4:13 AM Rating: Decent
I just dinged 68 and headed to Northrend. Outland went really fast, slowed by me leveling mining. I mainly need a miner to make money and supply ore to main JC. I also got the tome for cold weather flying
I specc'ed unholy as I mainly solo and am still suprised how he survives on 1-2 level higher and multiple mobs. I like the AOE but more heals might work out better.
I got invited to my first instance, need DPS bad I guess. I did not know how to act at first, so I was corrected quickly. Took dead pull of the hot bar and let the other DK pull and tank. He was a new DK tank but knew the pulls. I tried to do my job and we finished with a couple bad pull wipes. Got a couple greens, not upgrades. Fun but showed me I still have a lot to learn before I am a good DK DPS or Tank.

I assume alliance side is like Horde side up North.

I would quest in both the Fjord and Tundra for gear upgrades. There is a 2H Axe (Axe of the Frozen Death) that is a great blue to have and will last ya for a good while. Hordes get it in the Tundra after doing the 3 or 4 "main" quest lines.

If you are going to DPS you need Strength to mash heads in harder, while the Tanking you need Stam and all that good stuff Tanks want.

Grouping up is a great way to learn how to do just that. I went through 68-80 questing and being in LFG for what ever Instances I could get in.

Would it be worth the time to duel spec. I mostly want to level but L2Tank is a goal as ppl are always looking for tanks/heals and no one wants a BM hunter Smiley: smile

If you have the cash, go for dual spec.
However, you should have 0 trouble questing and leveling up if you stay in a Tank spec.
The plus side to this is: You learn your spec.

All 3 trees can be a Tank. I don't DK tank so I can't help much out on this, but if you like having a pet you can be an Unholy Tank.

As for the BM hunter part. You can do some good DPS as a BM, but you have to take the time to get the gear for it, learn a good rotation, and use the right pets (for real, there are "right" and "wrong" pets >.> lol).

Just saying; the average unholy tank spec doesn't pick up the permapet because it doesn't do anything for a tank - seeing as it's got its own threat table it only adds a mediocre amount of threatless DPS, which isn't part of your job. You can tank with a permapet in your spec probably all the way into and through Naxx, but don't expect to be able to keep it forever.

I would say level blood, you can tank or dps in it and you won't need a dual spec.
Blood is a single-target tanking spec, but with heart strike and BB and DnD where needed, you can pretty much handle any instance.

Blood suffers a little on prolonged pack fights.

As long as there are 2-3 mobs, sure, no problem. Heart Strike and Blood Boil along with the occasional Death & Decay will handle it. If you've got 4-5 mobs, though, you'll notice that people start pulling aggro. The obvious solution would be to mark and such, but extensive testing tells me that this isn't reliable.

I personally love how a glyphed Howling Blast causes mobs to stick to you. Death & Decay, Howling Blast, Blood Boil and those critters aren't going anywhere!

WoW so far I have three choices, all can be tank specs and can level with good results. leveling will be in NR and same level questing. Tanking will be outlands to start, maybe NR at ~75, will see. I also need to learn rotations as it seems they change depending on specs. Easy to play, difficult to master.

Tanking rotations are fairly easy. You can change them around to fit your needs, but if in doubt:

Death & Decay
Blood Boil
(Howling Blast)

On single targets it starts to vary depending on your spec, but basically hit the mobs as hard as you can and thanks to Frost Presence you'll out-aggro the others.
