The RazzaFollow

I need help in taming this beast. Petopia has not been updated to reflect this is not a standard chimera - while in its arena setting, it has some extra magical powers (most annoyingly, Summon Player). The Razza gets around the usual Hunter trick of Freezing Trap + Beast Taming + range by Summoning you to it. I got my pretty blood-elf face mashed into the arena floor twice, before I believed this was happening. Okay, so I read the forums a little more, and someone said something to the effect that if you closed the distance to just outside of aggro, then you could use Hunter Trick One because it was inside the range of Summon. This was true - The Razza now flew over to me and mashed my pretty blood-elf face into the floor without Summoning. What most annoyed me is that the Freezing Trap did not trigger (the four times I tried this), and simply dissipated (apparently clocking out). WTF?

I'm now baffled as to what to try next. The Hunter I'm using is level 70, armored and weaponed mostly with greens, BM specialty 51/5/5. The stated specs on The Razza show it's a 60 elite chimaera, which means I shoulda pwned this beast two days ago when I started this goofy project. The forums I've read were apparently written before The Razza was tameable, so the posts, where they have information, are all aimed at killing it, with no information on taming. I also went out and tamed a chimera in the wild, just to verify Freezing Trap would work on a target flying at normal monster approach (just like it has worked all the other times...)

The reason your Freezing Trap doesn't trigger might be because it can't be stunned/disoriented. Some elites can't.

As for it smashing your face, I'm guessing it's one hell of an elite.

Ps. Remember Aspect of the Monkey when you tame. Smiley: wink

You can't dodge while channeling a spell.

But you can take advantage of Aspect Mastery for 5% reduced damage. Smiley: schooled

Well... rats.

It had never occurred to me how limited Hunters were in this regard; Since Freezing Trap doesn't work, this means I'll have to do Beast Taming bareback, which hasn't worked so far because I either die or get stunned before the spell completes. Guess I'll have to start shining-up my alchemist buddies to get some hitpoint and defence buffs, or maybe a few more levels before I go back.

appreciate the commentary, folks.

I'll be spending the next few days hunting in Un'goro Crater, looking for a newly-tameable rare level-60 elite called King Mosh. According to the talk in the bars, Mosh hits unusually hard, has a lot of hitpoints, and isn't affected by Freezing Trap...

Mosh will also fear your *** off if you don't bring a priest buddy. Possibly even if you do, I can't remember.

Seriously, none of these skins are unique, just tame a normal version.

Is this "summon player" ability true? If so, it would be interesting in PvP...

Once tamed, a pet will have the same abilities as any other tamed pet of its type and spec. Pets do not retain unique abilities.

Yes Isyris, I know this. But there have been bugs before (a certain wolf turning into a worg is the latest I can think of). I was just wondering if this was the case. IF so, I know it will be patched, but it's always oh so fun to play around a little!

What fun is that? I can hang around the newby playgrounds and get all the newby-pets I want, or I can spend a little time, thought, and energy in tackling a rare elite at, or about, my own level. The latter is more interesting to me, and the fact there are blood-elf face-prints in the ground on three continents is just the cost of business.

Not that appearance of the pet isn't important - I've kept a wasp just because it matches my Hunter's hair...

YEAH

FIGHT THE POWER

BE HARDCORE

WASTE YOUR TIME ON A RARE ELITE THAT HAS THE EXACT SAME SKIN AS A COMMONLY FOUND MOB

King Mosh vs Tyrant Devilsaur

It's the same thing

On a less loud note, both of the aforementioned mobs will still net you that elite tag that hunters seem to be looking for now. Me, I'm happy with my now non-tamable spirit wolf.

Y'know, if you guys can get over yourselves, I think the fact I'm a roleplayer shouldn't be a bother at all.

Really sucks that "Rares" don't keep their silver dragon tag and "Elites" their gold one, aside the "BM only" ones. Would be WAY more bragging rights to have the dragon emblems.

And yet, the two mobs still have the same skin

I don't really care how you waste your time, I just think it's hilarious that you find it amateur hour to go after a less difficult to tame monster that looks exactly like the one you plan to spend hours chasing down.
