Help me heal plzFollow

#1 Oct 23 2009 at 2:04 AM Rating: Decent
Hi I have created a palladin healer and dinged 80 just last this week. I seek on more information on what addon/tips/button layout should I use to help me heal 10-25 mans.

At the moment I have installed Grid, Healbot.
It seems that with each one of those I seem to have a problem either in configuring it or not applying to my style.

Healbot 5 mans:
***************
this is what I enjoy using most in 5 mans. Large icons, Green bars, debuffs displayed, I can see my beacon and sacred shield clearly, click on a player and a heal is produced but at the same time a click on an XPerl icon will not produce a heal. Using XPERL frames (party frames):I can see my targets (tank) target(boss) and JoL on him easily with 'Q' button , beacon and SS are my 'E' and 'R' buttons and have to select my tank (through XPERL)in order to click those. I can also see whats going on around me to have quick responses in running when nessecary

So far so good, 5 man life is extremely easy for me.(keep in mind i didnt speak of decursing something...)

Lets now go to 25 mans or 10 mans.

HEALBOT 10 mans -25 mans:
**************************
When I join a large group .. healbot does tricks on me :
It gets very very large and 50% of the raid group is off the screen ... shouldnt this be set automatically to something smaller?
I set the fraims to 'RAid' and then the frames get idneed smaller to fit 25 or 10 but the color is changed from lime to stupid deep Green(for 10 mans).

With this change the raid names cant be seen , beacon and SS is virtually hard to spot and havent got any clue on what to heal. So I try to see XPERL raid frames (25 ppl or 10 ppl) to try and see who is the tank and perform some clicks from there... very vey hard for me trying to search through small icons to search for tank. Now also with the pumkin maniacs around us all frames appear with a pumkin buff... hard to find the star or the orange icon (tank marks). If my tank is not in my 5 man party(XPEL frams for party is large , while the whole raid frames are small in aroder to fit everybody) I m having difucultys judging and casting SS and beacon

XPERL
******
Frames also get smaller in order to fit 25 ppl. Trying to see a sacred shield there or a beacon in a frame is my worst... but only option so far. I need to be able to click on a frame with mouse and a heal to occur ...X PERL doesnt do that. ITs 2 clicks instead of one...

GRID
******
Same .. 2 clicks needed...
Frames also are way worst that healbot on 5 mans, HP loss is badly displayed. I cant see who is the tank.I have the frames also down left of my screen to keep it close Blizzrd interface buttons... when that happends I m missing lots of the action ... I dont consider a game looking 100% on a stupid grid frame.. I want it to be transparent like HEALBOT (5 man setup) and in the center of the screen

********************************************************************************
So any helps-ideas you can throw to improve my lovely pala do a descent 25 man? either that means button keynindings or better use of addons that i have ?

Personally, I'd pick one addon (based on the one that organizes information best for the way I personally percieve it - which for me is Grid) and get deep into it. Grid, in particular, rewards effort put into understanding how to access its flexibility - healbot is more set up to function normally out of the box.

One thing that is going to be universal, you're going to need either a complementary addon (Clique) or mouseover macros, or preferably a combination of both. Even if you use healbot, I'm not sure if cleansing parallels healing, and even then there's all the utility spells to consider (as well as the ability to macro e.g. DI and trinkets in). In my setup, all my heals, hands, and cleanses are "wrapped" in mouseover macros, with Beacon and Sacred Shield on keybinds along with Divine Sacrifice (and I think I'm going to move Hand of Sacrifice there when it becomes a primary ability again in 3.3). Everything else is mapped, within Clique, to a mouse button (or button+modifier - I have shift and ctrl for each button). Holy Shock gets both, since it's both offensive and defensive.

I'm pretty sure that Grid and Healbot, like XPerl, could interface with something like CTRA if your RL uses that to declare tanks. Personally, I prefer to use my focus frame. But even that is secondary - my primary "tank" indicator is that I have Grid set up to highlight the frame of anyone who has aggro. For many fights, this settles down to one or two consistent tanks, but this setup also lets me see exactly when a tank switch takes effect (as opposed to just being called out over voice), when someone steals aggro, who's picking up the adds, etc. Most of the time, the aggro indicator, incoming heals, and GridStatusRaidDebuff give me everything I need to know.

I also highly recommend - whatever you use - it should be directly below your feet, no more than a couple inches, and sized appropriately. There are too many dangers in even current raid content to allow the luxury of looking to the edge of the screen and refocusing every time you need a sitrep. Proper raid frame placement keeps the area around your toon at the corner of your awareness even when you're focusing on heals. That last point can't be stressed enough. Our current major healadin fail is not moving when necessary (either not avoiding the fire, or not following the raid and getting out of range). (Our minor healadin fail is letting JotP, shields, and beacon lapse, but there's nothing raid frames can do to help with that).

Start with healbot. If you are doing 5,10 or even entry level 25 man content it has everything you need.

If you find yourself in a situation where a raid leader is yelling at you because you didn't Hand of Freedom off roots on Freya 3 trees, or didn't clear Incinerate Flesh off then you might want to look into Grid a little more closely. For stuff like this http://riven.guildlaunch.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3585313&gid=6240

The thing about grid is that it is INSANELY customizable, even though it will take a lot of trial and error to get used to working with it. Want to adjust the size of it, sure. Want to set it up so it shows when tanks use Last Stand or Barkskin, you can do that too. Want to put in specific boss debuffs that you have trouble catching you can do that as well, change class colours, add mana bars, add threat, names, number of members etc. It will let you do more things to it than Theophanies mother an for less money which is why so many guys use it.

As for buttons, have FoL, HL, HS, Cleanse, Salvation, HoP, HoF, SS, Beacon, LoH ready to use with either. Go go.

Again with the bodhi myth that healbot can't show custom statuses.

BTW, if 25 man raid healbot is too big to fit on the screen then it's likely that you have icons shown off the bar. This adds a lot of space either side of the life bars and it won't fit on the screen. When you're in 25 man raid or 40 then you should probably set icon show on the bar.

Healbot options -> skins tab -> icons button on top -> icon position either on or off bar.

I haven't used Healbot but is it capable of showing if a tank has Last Stand, Sacred Shield, druid hots, GS, incoming heals, beacon, and whether the tank has say the Fusion debuff up all at the same time?

Healbot has done a lot to emulate the customization of Grid, but Grid is flat out uber customizable. If I want to know the second Last Stand is off so I can put up Blessing of Sacrifice, and be able to see if my cooldown is followed by something else I can. If I need to set a number of things in order of priority i can, so say Incinerate Flesh takes precedence on display over say Legion Flames, or be able to see if the off tank has BoF to help pick up adds on Anub HM in 25 man ToC I have it all while having a myriad of other select things displayed from encounter to encounter in the same window while also having FoL, HL, HS, LoH, HoSac, HoSalv, HoFreedom, Beacon, SS, DI, Cleanse, Redemption, etc all bound.

At a certain level you need to be aware of all the CD's and special abilities being used around you. The more and more you are hit with "Why didn't you heal/cleanse this move" the more and more important it is to get Grid. As a tool it is inarguably the most customizable add on in the game.

Used to use healbot and xperl, now its grid all the way with Clique. Clique is probably the single best add-on for a healer to use with whatever frames add-on you get. Clique works with xperl, grid, regular WoW frames, you name it.
Grid is a pain to set up until you play with it some and download some of the add ons for it. After use though you will learn to love it.
I use decursive just for tracking and removing debuffs, have them seperate just to keep my info coming in on grid at a manageable level.
Get Deadly Boss Mods or a similiar boss mod to help track some of the special attacks done by bosses.
I like Doom Cooldown Pulse to track the cooldown of Holy Shock, it puts up a big icon where ever you place it on your screen each time a tagged ability comes off cooldown.
In a 5 man group I keep X perl up at the top of my screen just to see the various buffs and mana/hp totals folks have but heal off Grid.
