A sticky sock is what you get when you forget to put tissues by the bed.

Low level mobs I use a wand attack first so that the Felguard doesn't one shot the mob before I get a DoT tick in. If your DoT does not damage the target you will not be able to loot it, I have this happen a bit...enough that I started using the wand attack first so that I know I get in a damage attack first. Attacking with the wand on a low level mob (most things under 60) then putting DoT will not affect the outcome. In really low areas I put pet on passive as the Cleave effect kills off nearby mobs as well. But one thing I have found is that the Imp can dps mobs down and I can still loot. So when I am in <20 zones I frequently pull out the Imp.

Edit: Wand attack also saves mana...why waste mana when you don't have to. When running a low instance DoTing a large mob pull in a dungeon can drain a large chunk of mana, Rain of Fire probably works well if the mobs will be dead after the channel. If not you just drew agro on the whole group. If something unexpected happens it could lead to an embarrassing death due to low mana. Tagging the mobs with a wand saves your mana and lets you sit back and watch your pet destroy the group (the one wand strike will not draw agro from the pet) and it's as easy as pressing the TAB key. If something weird happens like a mob running off and agroing another group (not that uncommon in Strat or Scholo) then you can still wand auto attack and TAB through the new Mobs to tag them (once the wand has fired you press TAB to the next MoB and the wand continues to fire) or if more desperate measures are required, due to agro loss on the pet, you still have full mana to deal with it. You are free to sit back and TAB through the mobs and see what ones pose a threat by being high in health and slap a DOT on them while the pet does the melee.
