For some reason, WoW got back at me, and I started playing again. I have a warrior and mage (71 and 74 now, respectively), and have a few questions about warriors since there have been a ton of changes since I stopped playing. I have been playing him as a fury warrior (what I was geared for when I quit) so far, but would like to get back into tanking as well once I meet some people (all my old friends seem to have moved on).

1. Is prot a viable leveling/farming spec now? From what I have read, it seems like it puts out a lot more damage than it used to. I only have 42 gold on my warrior now, so I can't afford a dual-spec yet, and never got my artisan riding skill either, which I want more than the dual-spec.

2. Is arms better than fury now? It seems like with the talent changes, it may put out as much or more damage, but it's hard for me to theorycraft it in my head since I haven't played so long. So many talents now sound VERY cool...

3. Achievements: Even though I had raided everything in Vanilla WoW except killing C'Thun, did all of the BC dungeons on regular and heroic except for maybe one or two heroics (and no Magister's Terrace - wasn't out when I quit), hardly any show up in the achievements. Once I hit 80, what should I be able to solo? I've read of people soloing Shadow Labs and some other high end BC dungeons, but I think they were druids and pallys; unless something's really different, I don't think an 80 warrior could do many of them solo.

That's it for now; thanks for any tips, comments, etc. even if they don't relate to these specific questions!

I leveled Prot from 52 or something. The moment I could get my hands on Devastate. I now have dual-spec and have compared Protection to Arms and Fury. Arms wins over Fury, but Protection wins over both of them. With Protection I can not only dish out the same amount of DPS as with Arms or Fury, but I can also come out with 90% health instead of 50%.

A geared Protection Warrior should probably be able to solo some of the Auchindoun instances. I'm soloing Shadow Labs on my Death Knight as DW Frost, but I must admit, I use self-healing quite a lot. I imagine Shadow Labs would be hard for any non-healing classes, but Sethekk Halls and Mana Tombs are probably doable.

Fury cool looking, but boring till you are geared enough to out-damage arms. I've seen prot do cool stuff really like stun lock rouges (and me) and pull off stuff that I would have had problems with on my feral druid at those lvls.

so the simple anwsers as I understand them:

1: Yes.

2: Yes, until you have really good gear. Once you have the gear fury out-damages arms.
(again this is as I understand it)

3: Achievments are NOT retro-active, unfortunitly there is no good way of tracking what you did Before the achievment system was insituted so all that cool stuff you did doesn't count. Sorry man.

(sorry for the bad spelling btw)
