New At Shammy - ElementalFollow

#1 Oct 09 2009 at 6:40 AM Rating: Decent
I made a Shammy day before yesterday and is now level l9. I am having a lot of fun with her but now time to go on the correct way. My questions for now are simple and I usually get good answers here.

Was told that Elemental = DPS, is that correct?

I should use 1H and a Shield being Elemental?

That my three stats should be Intelligence , Stamina and Spirit?

Also, is there a site for the Shammy talent builds?

I have kept my 2H mace, stave skills up along with 1H mace. I just added Axes to the mix last night and also have dagger skill.

Thanks

Yes, elemental is caster dps. The overwhelming majority of your damage will come from spells, though early on you'll probably see a fair bit of damage coming from your melee weapon as well.

Generally speaking, yes. Early in the game you won't find a whole lot by way of caster 1h weapons/shields, but unless you pick up a wonky BoE green, you'll never find caster stats on a 2h axe or mace. Later on in the game, 1h + shield will always be the way to go.

I could be mistaken, but I think there's much spirit on elemental shaman gear at end-game (I'll double check after work and post back if someone else hasn't confirmed/corrected me). That being said, spirit helps with a bit of out-of-combat mana regen. As a shaman, come level 20 the lion's share of your mana regen will be coming from Water Shield anyways. Int is good. Stamina is never really bad.

You can probably let your 2h weapon skills slip a bit in favor of the 1h goodies. If you decide to respec enhancement later on, weapon skills are easy enough to level these days that it wouldn't take long to get caught up if you needed to.

As far as Elemental Shaman goes, I would tend to focus on Int, Spellpower, then Stam. Spirit is cool and all, but once you hit Unrelenting Storm, it is my understanding that Int will serve you far more than Spirit. As elemental you are a Spell based DPS with some Melee Damage. If you were enhancement you would be a Melee DPS with some Spell damage. The Resto Spec is our healing tree. The main thing to focus on is that as Elemental you are going to kill things with your spells, assisted by a weapon.

So your focus on gearing should be to make your spells as hard-hitting as possible.

Thanks and look forward to anything else you think of but this is a great start for me. Am printing it all out.

Ignore spirit. It generally isn't present on higher-lvl mail caster items and water shield (at 20 nowadays, right?) will take care of your mana regen issues.

Spirit bad.

Spell Power, crit, Stam, Int. MP5 to a lesser extent since you have Water Shield/Unrelenting Storm/Mana Spring/Thunderstorm.
