Decimation 3.3Follow

Is anyone else a little confused by the new decimation in 3.3. They say it can now proc off of soul fire, does that mean the last 35% of the bosses life is simple soulfire spam, because if so dear god that is awesome! Greatest execute phase ever, though does reduce complexity.

Also they are making demo pact increase spell damage by 5%. Now I love these changes, even though I'm not playing right now. But I'm fairly sure they seem a little too powerful.

Even if that functionality for Decimation makes it into the live patch for 3.3, I doubt many warlocks will be spamming Soul Fire once a mob gets below 35% health. I say this simply for the fact that using Soulfire to proc the effect costs a soul shard each time, in addition to having Soulfire's cast time at it's higher level while not under the buff. Not to mention that if the Decimation buff wears off while casting Soulfire it also eats a shard. I think dps-wise it'll still be more optimal to proc the effect using Incinerate or SB and weaving in your Soulfire spam.

@CountFenris - Until the expansion anyway. From what I've heard about the coming expansion, soulshards required to cast anything are going bye bye. Instead they'll be used to buff our spells.

soulshards won't be wastable.. but they'll be used alot more and they have charges.. generally speaking you'll have 3 soulshards, so 3 charges.. shadowburn is going to be changed so that using it activates 1 soulshard, causing a different effect depending on what your next spell is (also shadowburn will be off the GCD, it won't deal damage or anything.. just it modifies the next spell and has a 30second CD)

soulfire will still use a soulshard 'charge'.. so come 35% on a boss, you cast 2 last shadowbolt/incinerate to get the proc, then you begin the soulfire spam.. tis another "zomg lets noobify this game" change 'cos to many retards are incapable of properly weaving spells together.. but i sharnt complain.. it is a buff ^^

And a pretty substantial buff at that. Though I never understood the difficulty in weaving, I mean when you first do it its a little wonky, but you get a little practice under your belt and it becomes like second nature. Though even if you did totally fail at the game you could always revert to a 2:1 rotation and still only lose about 100-150 DPS.

Though I do love this buff.

The OP's post was concerned with patch 3.3 changes and their effects on our rotation and playstyle. I thought the soul shard change was something that was coming in Cataclysm? I am very interested in learning more about that radical change and then learning how to incorporate Soul Burn into an effective combo. Also, I am very happy to free up a bag slot!

Yes, the soul shard changes are in Cataclysm, not 3.3. I was just saying that come Cataclysm, people could be spamming soulfire.

I've yet to bother looking up a complete Cataclysm update list, as far as locks. Though from what I hear, all classes are having a few talents removed, to make room for new ones. I'm surprised to see no thread listing and talking of the lock changes in Cataclysm.
