This applies to HOTs too but he specifically mentions SWP for testing in 3.3. They're thinking of introducing glyphs that make HOTs and DOTs tick faster with Haste. If the glyphs are successful they may make it a regular function.

For 3.3 we are talking about introducing three new glyphs for Shadow Word: Pain, Corruption and Rejuvenation that would allow these spells to tick faster with the more haste you have. There are glyphs of Corruption and Rejuv already, and we're not sure how we're going to resolve those yet. For Shadow Word: Pain, we are likely to rename the current glyph to Glyph of Mind Flay, remove the old Glyph of Mind Flay, and increase Mind Flay by 10 yards in the base spell.

Notice the nice ancillary benefit for Mind Flay. :)

Thoughts?

Aye, I just noticed it on the front page. It all ties in with the renewal Cataclysm will bring us. I really wonder how this will impact the rotations of Spriests as well as basically any class that isn't a rogue, though.

in all honest it will have no impact on Shadow Rotation because SW:P is refreshed by Mind Flay.

So, no rotation change, but should help DPS.

Hm. Maybe I should look at that once in a while. I follow my link straight here. :)

I hope you're going to clean up after.

Hehehehehehe That'd be fun.
But it'll first have to pass the trial though, as I don't have room for a glyph of SW: Pain.

Devouring Plague is also not yet affected, it will only be corrpution, rejuv and SW: Pain through glyphs for now.

... For now. =P

I only actually read the title of the news message the first time; I'm just thinking that if they push through with this, stuff *will* change. I'm thinking a bit more ahead. Though on the other hand, I told somebody else on these forums not too long ago that there's little point in discussing that far ahead yet seeing as cataclysm will overhaul the game as we know it.

It's certainly an interesting and fun change.

As a hunter too, having quicker ticking stings and Black arrow will be interesting.
It's not very beneficial as it'll just lead to more refreshing of serpent sting (and BA has a cooldown anyway) but it would make haste a little more valuable.

it's mostly just a godsend for Affliction locks :P

Also...

We do recognise that Shadow priest single-target damage is on the low side. In 3.3 we plan to have some changes coming to bring them up a bit. Most of the changes will likely be made on the glyph side of things, something along the lines of trying a glyph to let SW:P scale with haste or similar.

So if this particular haste plan doesn't work out, expect something else to replace it. Dual wielded axes? Smiley: cool

I say we go for broke and duel-wield rouges!

(yes, the spelling is on purpose)

Gnome Rouges! Because Tauren Rouges would be too heavy, and nobody likes slutty makeup.

I did some test on the PTR and compared it my DPS on regular relms.

On a combat dummy, with only self buffs (Spirit and Inner Fire) I was doing around 3.4k DPS when pushing my rotation on the Normal relms.

On the PTR, while being a bit sloppy (still adjusting to the haste) I was getting around 3.8-4k DPS (In slightly inferior gear as well)

I look forward to this going live.

I'm very happy for the shadow priests on this one :)

Forgive me, I get confused easily... >.<
For the haste affecting the HoTs, will it still tick for its intended duration (15sec?) just have more ticks because the haste will decrease the time between ticks? Or will it tick for the intended amount of healing or number of ticks and just be used up faster? Is it so small of a change that it isn't worth the glyph (or my worries)?

My only concerns are fights where you want a HoT to heal over an extend time. I like to use my renews to ease the spike dmg on the tank while I continue to raid heal. Also fights like the last phase of Anub (easing the dmg and helping to maintain people at 50% health) or the spider boss in Naxx who webs the raid preventing heals but dealing dmg at the same time.

Nope, now DoT's act more like channeled spells you don't have to channel.

Haste reduces duration and time between ticks, allowing us to do Damage faster.

I believe our HoTs are unaffected by haste, as Shadowform is picking up the ability to have haste effect DoTs.

hmmm... I completely overlooked the title of this thread and posted based more on Teacake first comment =/ I was looking for info on hot glyphs for the holy/disc types.

This is what I get for being away from the forums for two weeks, a rushed attempt to play catch up.

I've been doing some testing on this on the ptr. With about 700 haste on my gear my dummy dps went up from 4100 on live to about 4600, even with the hideous lag on the test servers. I'm guessing with normal lag I could get as high as 500 with that set up. Looks like its going to be a really nice change overall. However, I did notice that I was burning through my mana like crazy compared to live. Good job the extra spirit scaling is there now I guess. The only other downside is that I'm going to have to do a fair bit of regemming. Oh well, should be worth it.
