H ToC Kicked my ButtFollow

I tried healing H ToC last night with a group of guildies and it was a dismal failure. We were on the faction champions and they ripped through the tank like tissue paper. I threw everything I had at him and I couldn't keep him up. Mana wasn't an issue because he died before I could go OOM.

Now I've run a lot of heroics with this same group and I've never had this kind of trouble before. None of us are hard-core guys but we know our way around a 5man. I'm in full ilvl 200 epics and the tank is slightly better geared. I run as holy which I know isn't ideal for tank healing but I've been able to make it work everywhere else.

This is me. I won't link the tank because I don't know if he wants his character up for public scrutiny. I will say that he has 30k HP unbuffed, is defense capped and has decent avoidance. He is sometimes slow on ground obstacles so he might have been getting comboed with poison puddles and a whirlwind. I was too busy spamming heals and muttering curses at the GCD to know for sure.

So these are my questions. What is the expected gear level to see success in there? We had the warrior, hunter and rogue, I'm guessing this is a particularly bad combo to heal through but are they THAT much worse than the rest? Am I crazy to think that a holy priest that isn't over-geared can successfully heal it?

I don't know the gear score requirement, but if you are getting through the other heroics fine, ToC heroic is only a notch above those.

As far as the mob makeup, some kill order is usually discussed prior to engaging. Truthfully, I don't pay much attention to this (although I should, lol), but my general feeling is that the rogue dies first and the warrior last. I do recall that you cannot run away from the warrior's bladestorm, so if the tank is trying to kite this by running, he will get ate up.

I don't see any issue with your gear, but I ain't saying you're not crazy! =)

I don't know the answer to your question, I just wanted to ask whether this was a really polite way of saying, "stands in the fire."

If you don't happen to have a shaman or druid in your group the poison can be a real pain in the *** for a priest healer on that first boss, especially if you're going at it in level 200 gear.

oh man that's my new line, I love it!

Is the tank a dk? They get rocked these days

You might want to get a cc on one if possible, but mainly just have to spam heal through it till one dies

But if he is standing in a green and tanking 3 mobs its going to end rather quickly if he doesn't kite around, let alone everyone else taking damage. If you used all your cooldowns and he still dies thats going to be rough

Make sure he didn't have his back on one

I keep marshmallows in his backpack. If the boss goes down we celebrate with smores.

It's just a potential vicious fight. It sounds like you guys are adequately geared for it, but just barely so. That means the margin for error is very low. It sounds to me like your tank would do well to up his game and not "volunteer" for needless damage (ie. standing in poison).

The fight can definitely get ahead of you if you aren't on top of your game. More than once I've seen groups wipe if we weren't all paying attention and doing our best. Each time you do it, you have a chance to ask yourself how you could do it better.

I found that ToC is much more reliant on the rest of your group than any other heroic.

Other heroics, the dps can be low, the tank can be slow and you'll heal them through as the damage isn't that high anyway.
In ToC if dps is low and people are slow to move damage is going to ramp up very quickly.

At the start of Faction Champions it certainly hinges on the tank.
The tank needs to move to get all three mobs in front of him, keep them on him and move the whole bunch out of any AoE.
Bad tanks take a couple hits in the back, take a few extra ticks of the poison and thus become almost unhealable until one of the three is dead.
