DW DPS in CataclysmFollow

I've read about the removal of AP in Cataclysm, but its now struck me on how that affects Frost Dual-Wield DPS. They use the AP on weapons such as Aledar's Battlestar and Tankard o' Terror to replace the missing Strength, but this will no longer exist in two content patches. Both above mentioned weapons will be useless, or have to use the new stat changing recipes. What do you guys think will happen?

Itemization is going to drastically change -- think about all the tanking gear with +def on it for example. Not to mention the changes to spellpower gear.

TBH, I haven't thought about it enough to figure out how Blizz will handle it. But it's possible that some of those weapons might get their stats changed in a way that they're no longer very good for DK. If they do ... thankfully it's a new X-pac and we'll be getting new gear anyway. :)

Like Tab said, all the itemization currently in the game will get a huge overhaul. The game as we know it will no longer exist, therefore there's little point in discussing the application of current itemization rules on the new itemization. Much less whining over it, as I've already seen various people do in other places. There's of course always room for speculation, but all that can currently be said with certainty on the matter is that nothing will be like we currently know it and that you'll have to trust Blizz in doing it right.

As for the speculation part, I wouldn't be surprised if they normalized strength and other base stats in such a way that any class that currently uses attack power can simply focus strength and get a similar benefit.

Exactly. And they will probably automatically adjust existing gear to the new paradigm, just like they did when Damage Done and Healing Done got converted into Spellpower. The way I see it, it will go like this:

For instance, spellpower gear: In the new system, Intellect is supposed to give your spells the benefit that Spellpower now gives. To convert it, they'd just need to look at the ratios. So x Intellect will give your spells y benefit, so if a weapon with Spellpower currently gives y benefit, they need to convert z spellpower to x intellect through some formula.
The same will apply to AP, converted to either STR or AGI, depending on the gearclass (ie Leather, Mail, Plate etc).
