Choosing New SpecFollow

#1 Oct 05 2009 at 8:54 PM Rating: Decent
What would be the best spec for a lock who's interests lie in heriocs and old world farming and instances? I'm thinking demo but after 2+ years as afflic not sure where it stands now. I've read so many things about spell weaving, meta and immolation aura with porting back and forth. Any demo locks out there that can assist with this? And for gear. Armory: Chrissyg on Lothar

Honestly I find Affliction the easiest for soloing and farming. Old world stuff has low life. You can just tab through mobs and DoT them. And with SL you get your life back. It's less mana consuming than Destro.

For Heroics, depending on your gear, switch to Destro. Though it is the more gear dependent spec.

My lock is dual spec'd.

1st spec is demo. I use this for solo play and heroics. Haven't done too much of old world solo instances, but I've done some. Basically, RoF with FG on defensive. Anything RoF doesn't kill, the FG cleans up for me.

The only old world instance I really venture into is Stratholme, for trying to get the mount. Simple run though, so not a great example.

2nd spec is destro. This one I use for raids, due to it's higher dps than demo.

Ideally, I'd prefer to use destro for heroics, but sadly, even though the high end content was nerf'd, some tanks still fail and can't hold the agro I pull as destro.

I've never been affliction, so can't say much about it.

Thank you. I just dual specced last night and I'm still playing with destro tree and rotation...mind-numbing compared to afflic but I have alot to learn. I will go back to FG for the first time pre-TBC. It'll be interesting, I. Ran H Uk right after speccing destro and as far as trash went it was much better than afflic but for the bosses I lacked the knowledge to really push destro, but fights lasted only 10-15 sec anyway. I'll continue to work on it. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Destro rotation should be this:

Curse of Elements -> Immolate -> Conflagrate -> Chaos Bolt -> Incinerate spam

Conflagrate and chaos bolt when ever the CD is up.
Keep Immolate up at all times.
If their is another lock in the group, decide which is doing CoE. The other should do CoD.

For trash mobs, you may not need to spam the entire rotation.

Thanks. I'm going to give it a try tomorrow with some herioc farming. As much as I'll miss it I think I'm going to give up afflic for 41/30 to do some old world and TBC instances. Probably pick up afflic again for leveling in cata.

I have found all these post very useful and have been using this build and is working nicely for me though I still need a few more pieces of equip to really get going. As always I've been looking for the best build and I found this one off of http://warlockbuilds.com/, I also made an adjustment build off of that one:
http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warlock#fao_R41QvWUdzN,,10952
http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?warlock#fc29Eps8twb-,,10952
Both of these builds are hybrid builds, I am going to try out the 2nd link tonight, as I already have dual spec but just wanted to see what other people think about them and get some feed back on it: scrap it or modify it.

This is my current setup: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Malygos&n=Lockegnome
