Offhand item for feral druid?Follow

I'm a 79 feral druid, working on getting to level 80 fairly quickly. When I do hit 80, I have a tankard o'terror waiting for me (1 handed mace from Brewfest boss). What should I pair with it? Bear in mind (pun intended) that I am not in a raiding guild and I generally don't do pugs. Our guild is capable of running any regular level 80 instance, though.

The reason I ask is I don't believe I can use hand weapons in offhand, right? Most of the offhand items I have run across have been caster items. I don't recall finding an offhand item that I could use that would benefit a feral druid. What am I missing? Thanks!

I think ferals generally use 2-handed weapons. One-handed are designed more for dual wield or use with a shield, both of which druids are unable to do.

Run H Violet Hold for the staff that drops there or (once you have enough gear) HToC 5 for the polearm. Feral duids do not use 1 handed weapons. Staff, Polearm and sometimes 2h Mace.

Nothing, really - that's pretty much the situation. You can't dual-wield an offhand weapon, use an offhand shield, and (I believe that) literally all the offhand frills are intended for casters (it's technically possible to find some without +int, +sp, or +spi, but that still doesn't mean that those were intended for physical dps).

If you're doing it for the coolness factor, don't let the lack of offhand stats dissuade you. If you're doing it because it's better than your alternatives, shop the Argent Tournament. Staffs (for a handful of Seals) and Polearms (from the Confessor in Heroic ToC/5) will be better friends to you than mugs.

The staff from Champions Seals is better than the H VH one IMO.

RIP Earthwarden. You were the original 2h mace, the only 2h mace, and the best 2h mace.

Moderately, but it's also ugly as sin...I was so happy to finally get the HTOC polearm and be rid of that eyesore.

I'm not sure how our little 5-man guild group will fare in heroics any time soon. We're all casual players and we just don't get to run instances all that often. We have yet to run anything besides the intro instances in Wotlk so far (but that will soon change). The 1h mace is better than anything I have access to currently (and is about twice as good as the rep polearm I'm using currently), so I don't mind using a 1h item only for now until I can work my towards the Champion staff.

Thanks for the replies. They just confirmed what I thought already. I may shop the AH for some junk offhand item that has...I dunno...something fairly useful. Thanks!

Even an iLevel 200 blue like Lightning Giant Staff (heroic Halls of Lightning) will be better than a Tankard o' Terror. And you can get the Emblem staff from Tournament dailies, not running heroics. I think it takes about a week and a half to get to Champion of your faction, then a couple days more to get to 25 seals.

We'll most likely be easing our way into heroics once we get a round of the regular runs under our belts. In the meantime, I'm going to be working towards getting Champion and then getting the staff. But in the interim I will be questing and the tankard will come in handy for that. Thanks for steering me towards the staff!

Heroics are easy mode for the most part should be able to jump right in at 80 with the exception of a few. The staff from champ seals will take weeks to get btw and H VH is really easy(Of course could still take weeks.)

Tankard of Terror + Best BoE OH (Rare Inscription Off-Hand with crit & hit)
47 Agi
37 Sta
25 Hit
65 Crit
27 Haste
1700 AP

Champion's Seal Staff
630 Armor
103 Agi
98 Sta
52 Crit
134 AP
1979 AP

So the staff loses you 13 Crit, 25 Hit, 27 Haste but gains you 56 Agi, 61 Stam, 279 AP & 630 Armor - no contest. It takes 9 days of doing the tournement daily quests to be able to get the 25 seals you need for the staff, although, if you do Heroic ToC every day, you can get another 3 seals a day, plus the chance to get Marrowstrike, which is much better again. As a bonus, you can sell the Tankard for some decent gold at the moment to a class that can make proper use of it, and pay to get your new weapon enchanted with Beserker!

Lol champion dailys. I've done maybe... 15 quests total in the tournament?
#16 Oct 01 2009 at 5:58 AM Rating: Good
I love doing the tournament dailies, they're so well grouped that it's fast money and I get 8 champion seals a day just from those which go toward my mount/pet/tabard collection.

I'm actually tired of doing the champion grind, since I did it with my death knight. But I'll do it again with my druid just the same. Before we start venturing into heroics we need to get our tank's defense up (meaning better gear) and I need to improve my +spell power (since I'm healer for our guild runs). And by running through the instances on normal mode first, we'll at least get a feel for the dungeons before we submit ourselves to them on heroic mode. I'm looking forward to them, though. Thanks!

On each of my alts, I put myself in LFG for the Heroic Daily then start doing the tournement dailies until I get a group. If I get them finished then I switch to another toon and repeat. Keeps me in gold and doing something instead of just standing around in Dal while waiting for a group.

Amen, may you return to us one day Earthwarden.

Does no one do all the icecrown dailies? or am I just an out dated 'tard that took too long of a break?

The only dailies people really seem to do anymore, are the Argent Tournament ones, and maybe the Knights quests, but those are all solo.

Group Quests in Icecrown? Chillmaw/Citadel Jousting or GTFO basically.

If for some reason you really did want to use it, as opposed to the suggested items which are greatly better, the best offhands you could find would be Book of Clever Tricks or Tome of Knowledge.

Yeah, that's level 60 items. There haven't been any Feral offhands for 2 expansion packs. Sell the tankard.

OK, yes, the Tankard may be a lot better than the Tidebreaker Trident (which the Armory says you're currently using), but there are far more appropriate upgrades out there!

The Whale-Stick Harpoon (available from the Kalu'ak at Revered, and you're already at least Honoured) is almost as good, and then you can use the money from selling the Tankard for some of the lvl 80 crafted epics. It sounds like you're healing your guild runs anyway, so there's really no sense in using a lucrative weapon like that just for soloing, when there are cheap and easily available alternatives which will serve you just as well.

I'm happy to see the suggestions continue to come in. I dinged 80 yesterday evening and, yes, I equipped the tankard. I wouldn't have been able to sell it anyway. A guildie gave it to me because they didn't need it and they have as much gold as they care for (otherwise they would sell it themselves). It is a huge upgrade for me despite being 1-handed.

I have started my Tournament dailies as well, but it could be a while before I am able to get the staff. It just depends how consistently I can log in and play.

And the same guidie that gave me the tankard gave me two pieces of epic crafted gear last night. They go with my healing set, so it's to the benefit of the guild that I have them, but still it was a very nice gesture. I hopefully speak for our small guild when I say I'm really looking forward to running the Wrath instances and finally getting a full set of nice gear! Thanks again for all of the suggestions. Now I have an idea of how to progress gear-wise for my feral spec. /salute!

Titansteel Destroyer is a half-decent two hander that you can get crafted fairly cheaply (depending on your server's prices of course). It gets you started with a nice chunk of hit until you can begin getting some Heroic drops.

I don't know why you would say you'd never be able to sell the tankard, Enhancement Shaman fight hand over fist for them. But grats on upgrade, even though you'll have it replaced in a week :p

Norellicus, I wouldn't have been able to sell it because it was a gift from a guildie. They gave it to me because I wanted it, otherwise they could have sold it themselves. I'm sure I could have sold it if I had wanted to, but I wouldn't do that to a guildie. Chances are good I won't replace this in a week (or even two weeks, maybe in 3 weeks though *grin*). When you look up the word "casual player" in the proverbial dictionary, you're likely as not to see my picture there.
