As a Paly I was able to DPS/Tank/Heal while I went from 1 - 62ish no matter what my spec. Once I got into Outland it was tougher and trying to heal from a tank spec, while technically possible was just getting stupid to waste people's time...

Is it the same for Druids?

Can I tank anything through Vanilla content while spec'ing Cat, Caster, or healer?

Same question for healing instances while specing Bear, Cat, or Caster?

I haven't healed at all on my druid, though I'd say you should be resto for healing, and not be anything else. As for tanking when not specced bear, it's probably not a good idea, especially if you try to tank while balance and/or resto. Tanking while specced for kitty dps can be okay (I've done it) before you get into high level raids and heroics, as long as you can take the damage reasonably well.

I tanked NR Beasts25 and Jaraxus25 in my kitty spec.

Vanilla is w/e as long as you have the gear.

Ouland starts to matter.

Northrend for sure need a more proper spec.

I healed in a hybrid balance/resto well into northrend. But it really started to become a challenge if I didn't get a properly geared group. Balance should be able to heal ok, but you'll find yourself going OOM if you aren't careful, and is more reasonable for group quests then instances once you hit outlands.

You'll probably want to choose between melee (tank/dps) and caster (dps/heals) fairly early. The gearing for the two really starts to diverge once you hit outlands, but still is significant before then. That being said I never tried to tank anything in my caster gear, so you'll have to let me know if it is workable :)

It gets harder and harder as you level. You are missing more and more core talents as you get higher. I'd avoid healing dungeons off-specced unless you out level them by a few levels, but certainly healing for group quests etc is fine. Same for tanking, non-ferals can tank quests but will probably struggle in any dungeon.

Well, obviously if I tried to tank, say BRD, I wouldn't be wearing INT gear, I'd be focusing more on STA/STR, but thank you all for your responses.

We get 2 AP from strength like plate-wearers, but that doesn't mean we go out of the way to get it. You want Agi and Stam.

I'm Feral (Hybrid) spec'd.. lvl 73.

I healed and tanked and DPS'd my way through the levels without any problems at all (though, yes now it gets tougher)

Collect different sets of gear as you go i.e. Heal set, Tank set etc. and just use them with whatever spec you are to do the instance.

Played well and with an ok group you really should be fine up to heroics I think. Heroics need proper spec'd I believe thoyugh but by then I hope to have enough gold for dual spec :)

Good luck and happy adventuring.
