Raiding and Gear QuestionsFollow

So I'm not a big raider. In fact, I've only done a single HoL raid and it wasn't heroic. And so obviously I've never done a heroic raid before. I chalk that up to the fact that I don't have a good guild and my server kind of stinks. I find it hard to get pick up groups, and when groups do get together, other people get impatient because we're missing a tank/healer/etc. so they drop out. Therefore I don't find myself spamming the trade channel begging for the invite for the heroic. But I digress.

I feel like my gear is decent if I were to enter heroics, but I'm curious to read opinions about it. I'm trying to build up Ebon Blade and Wyrmrest Accord reputations to fill in two gear spots, but Wyrmrest can only really be built up (IMO) through heroic clearing and daily reputation rewards through Dalaran. I like the spec I have right now but I'm open to suggestions about that too. I've always specced demo and I don't see any reason to change that though.

Basically, I want to get feedback if my gear is good enough for entry level heroics, or if I'm deluding myself and still need a lot of work. Thanks for anything you can give me. Here's my armory link: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Eredar&n=Xenogears

I just want to point out that your using the term 'raid' incorrectly, in context of what other players refer to as raiding in WOW. HoL is not a raid, it is normally referred to as a dungeon. Raids in WOW is 10, 25, or 40 man group content. 5 player instances are referred to as dungeons. I haven't been around wow for too long, but that is my understanding of it.

Now to answer your question, I believe your gear is good enough for heroic dungeons. If you aren't able to find a group on your server now for WOTLK heroics, I don't know when you will be able to because recently there are a lot of people on my server going back to do Heroics to farm for conquest badges. Admittedly, it has started to slow down as oppose to a few weeks ago (after 3.2 released), but maybe you should consider a server change.

Haha, yeah. Dungeon was obviously what I was trying to reference.

As for heroics, I see shouts in trade channel or what have you. It's not like they're dead on my server, but it is frustrating to be shouting for a group and never seem to be able to find one.

your gear looks fine for starting heroics. as for finding a grp, it shouldnt be to hard once 3.3 goes live with the new LFG system. so just hang in there a lil while longer an finding grps should, i repeat should be easier and less of a hassle. that is if blizz doesnt releace it all buggy and whatnot

First of all, don't spam the trade channel. It's a pet peeve of mine, but the LFG channel is so easy to access there's no reason. Press I, select your heroic of choice and voila, you enter the LFG channel.

Also:

Dungeon/instance = anything where you are separated from the rest of the game world in your own unique dimension/version of that encounter.
Raid = generally any dungeon/instance that requires more than five people to do. The exception is that you can turn a 5-man group into a raid without adding more people to it.
Heroic = hard mode version of dungeon/instance. Often referred to as "hard mode" when talking about raids though I guess the difference in the same.

Been a while, but I believe that when I went into heroic instances, I was doing around 1.5k dps and maybe 2.5k dps, by the time I first went into raids.

So I recommend watching your dps and seeing where to go from there.

Also, demo is fine. I actually recommend it for heroics. Most of all, if you PUG heroics. My felguard has saved me from a PUG heroic wipe before. Once you hit raids and have the gear for it, destro can deal a higher dps though.

Also, do you know where Violet Hold is? It's the area in Dalaran with that gate that requires a key, to the south.

On either side of that gate (back where those blue prisons are glowing) are two quest givers. They'll give you the daily heroic and daily dungeon quests. It will be much easier to find groups for these (well, easier for the heroic at least) than others. So, look for those dungeons first. And answer comments in /1 or /2 that are looking for DpS. They'll probably take you if they aren't full on locks.

Haha, bit of a thread necro, as the OP posted about two months ago. Looking at his armory, he hasn't played much more since posting. I just see regular HoL done on 7/30 and regular ToC on 9/30, and no WotLK heroics yet.

But in case he is still reading:

Your spec is a little off from the typical demo (non-raid assist) builds. Try either 0/41/30 if you want a Felguard, or 0/40/31 if you want Conflagrate.

Also, you have two Glyphs of Felguard. Otherwise, you have decent gear to start heroics with. Enchant and gem some of it and it'll only help you. Build up your Kirin Tor and Wyrmrest Accord rep, though with Emblems of Conquest dropping in heroics, you can buy better gear with those rather than grind rep for the faction-specific purchases. However, Kirin Tor rep will give you access to your head enchant.
