I looked at the post on the top of the page but was hoping for a bit more depth. I am currently skinning/lw, but is mining/eng a better option? I know its expensive, but I am only level 11 and have the time to grind it a bit. Just wondering your thoughts, thank you.

It doesn't matter.

I'm kind of out of it about min/maxing, but last time I checked, JC/Blacksmithing was the best, and I think I remember something about Enchanting being good again, I uno though, you'll have to wait for someone else.

If you are only level 11 it doesn't really matter what you do...you're not really going to see the true benefits until you hit 80 anyways, skinning and lw would be fine for now since you get extra crit and you can make your own armor.

Skinning and mining or skinning and herbalism would be better for leveling.
Two Gathering skills ensures a solid stream of gold coming your way.

And if you have Skinning+Mining it's easy to switch to say LW+JC when you reach level 80 (assuming you don't sell too many gems, rare ores and the annoying leather (a.k.a. rugged))

Or Skinning and herbalism and you can switch to LW+Alchemy.

What is better is up to you but I recently picked up engineering and it's pretty fun. You can make your own ammo and scopes and there are a number of useful toys. Having the ability to FD and break out jumper-cables can save a long corpse run if all of the healers are dead in a dungeon or raid. You get increased performance of pots through injector kits. And the tinkering enchants got buffed to be on par with regular ones on top of the added effect like a parachute and Nitro Boosts. Don't get me started on how much I love Nitro Boosts.

I'm a leather worker too. But most of the stuff worth making is BoE and can be purchased on the AH inexpensively. Leather also doesn't sell that well, especially compared to ore. Even leveling I was rather disappointed in the armor I could make myself. There are some nice pieces, but most of them took mats that were too hard to collect or too time consuming at the level I needed them for.

The short summary is don't think crafting professions are for making money, gathering is. Crafting is fun so pick the combo you think you'll enjoy the most. I hope my opinion helps you find what that will be for you.

A lot depends on what you want to get out of your professions. One gathering and one crafting (LW much more so for a hunter than BS) make you self-reliant. Two gathering is best for making money at low levels. Two crafting is best for playing the endgame min/max game.

A lot depends on your server economy, too. What might work on a server like mine where the low-level and mid-level areas are still buzzing with people on their first toons might be suicidal on an established server where everyone under 80 is a fourth alt of a hardcore raider.

The path I took with my hunter (second toon to 80) was to start with skinning/enchanting. I treated enchanting as a purely gathering profession, disenchanting my own quest items and cheap AH greens (enchanting only to level up to where I could disenchant higher level stuff). I socked away in my bank the skins I would need later to quickly level LW (along with the mats for some useful level 60 or so gear) and all surplus went to the AH to supplement my bankroll. I also watched the AH not just for cheap greens to DE but for cheap Outland and Northrend leather. At 60, I switched into LW, burned through my bank, and disenchanted the stacks of leveling gear (which don't sell at all well on the AH).

As for the gear, I didn't miss it. There are only a few places pre-60 where the LW gear you can make at-level are better than quest rewards - and those items are fairly cheap on the AH. After 60, and especially after 70, there are some nice crafted pieces, and being free from the whims of the AH is a benefit.

With the prep work in Skinning and some tricks which I would describe here but this margin is too narrow to contain, LW was basically free to level. And disenchanting continues to be a huge profit-maker. Not every server economy will support it, but I can testify that it's a valid path to take on servers that will.
