Trade skill Q.Follow

#1 Sep 16 2009 at 2:52 PM Rating: Good
So my DK is nearing 80 (at 78) and the 2 Trade skills I took up where Mining and Herb.
The reason for the 2 is that my guild has a few people who do the "create" skills, and If i needed anything made all I would have to do is get the mats.

But now that I'm nearing 80, I was thinking about dropping Herb and taking up Black Smithing.
Mainly as a Weapon Smith, but I can't decided on either Mace or Axe (or sword).

I don't want to be an Armor smith because there is one in my Guild (he makes gear for me ^-^), but I don't think we have a weaponsmith anymore.

I am an Orc so I assume Axe would be better (due to racial), but I plan on leveling a Shaman (not sure what is the best Weapon to use with them - Axes or Maces- but want to be able to make her weapons as well).

Any of you Weaponsmiths? And if so, what path did you take?

The actual craftables are crap at 80 (other than stuff like toc patterns). The reason you go BS is the extra gem slot to your bracer. JC/BS are the technical best two, but they're expensive to level. I went with herb and inscription

Yeah, there's really no need to take up blacksmithing for the weapons since the new 5-man drops a great axe on heroic. I'm a blacksmith myself because the extra sockets are awesome though I somewhat regret it because the super gems from being a JC look nice as well. If you do take up blacksmithing, there's no really point in choosing between weapon and armorsmith anymore since there are maybe one or two crafted items in WotLK that require a spec into one of them and those aren't very good anyways.

I decided to not take up BS.
If there isn't any good weapons to make at 80 before I get Raid Drops, then no point in it for me.

I'll stay Mining/Herb and just be able to farm for mats for Enchants/food/pots and what not.

I like alchemy myself. Why? Because I can use Stoneblood and indestructible potions all day long and not feel like I am losing a lot of money. Stoneblood is 1300 hp and indestructible potion is 3500 armor for 2 mins.

I will admit that I am still a little short on gear at 80, so that 1300 hp is what puts me over the 30k mark. That 30k mark is important since it is the point I stopped being kicked out of groups.

Just my 2 cents. The real trick to a good trade is the one your willing to use either for yourself or to make money.
