Stat preferenceFollow

#1 Sep 16 2009 at 11:10 AM Rating: Decent
I'm trying to write a comprehensive guide on all things Mage for my guild website, and there's one thing I'm unclear on that I wasn't able to find here. Are the stat preferences for mages the same regardless of spec, or does each one have a different value on Crit and haste for example?

In our lovely sticky, we have stat preferences listed for the Fire build and the FFB build, but not for Arcane that I saw, and it does appear that the Fire and FFB specs have different preferences.

If someone could clear this up for me I would be most appreciative.

Fireball and arcane are pretty similar, although Fireball benefits more from Crit than arcane does (for obvious reasons)

The GENERAL idea for stat weights:
Arcane:
Hit capped (although I frown on gemming/enchanting for it) > Spellpower > Haste > Crit > Int > Spirit
Fireball:
Same as above (but they are worth different amounts)
FFB:
Same, but swap haste and crit.

Now that is from what I remember, and could be wrong to a certain point. Best way to get an idea is to plug your character into rawr and see what the stat weights it gives you are.

Okay thanks Anobix, I'll take a look at that and see what Rawr says.

For fireball, wouldn't it make sense rate Spirit higher than Int(since fireball specs lack Mind Mastery)?

I stand corrected, you are probably right there Pold as it will probably give more crit after talents/glyphs/etc. I haven't played with my char in rawr since posting that to be sure yet.
