I have a level 80 priest who i want to start pvping with, but when im in batlegrounds i find myself either healing, or dying. I see other priests with killing blows, and i just dont get how they do enough dps to kill something. Any of you have any ideas as to killing with a discipline priest, and what spells you have on your toolbar (im using the standard wow ui, btw). Im jsut not sure what damaging spells to use as disc, and how people kill so fast as discipline. Thanks in advance for answers

Holy fire, Mind blast, Shadow word death, Smite, Penance.
You can also use your dots although they're a relatively high mana cost option that can be dispelled in a lot of ways.

SW:D is a nice option while moving. You can prep yourself with a PoM long before you engage and then SW:D will cause it to jump on someone else when you cast it, saving you a gcd. Try to cast a shield before your penance (whether using it offensively or defensively) and finish with a non-instant to make use of BT.

i.e. You could shield yourself, Penance, Holy Fire and SW:D on another for around 8-9k damage in under 5 seconds. Not great bursts, but priests do have the capability of some burst.

Fear to buy time to close, reset, or retire. In my experience, Psychic Scream is next to useless as a panic button. Better to use it offensively to clear trinket(s) or go to burst opportunity.

I agree with Mothra regarding dots. I will use them when a fight turns into a grindfest or goes on the move, otherwise I try to rely on bursts and outlast.

Holy Fire is my main offensive spell of choice. It really does a very respectable amount of damage (I spec Searing Light), and it's a nice bonus if the dot doesn't get dispelled. And given that I'm usually healing between offensive stuff, it's often off cooldown when I need it.

Other than that I use Smite when I have nothing else to do, and I dot everyone up if there doesn't seem to be anyone keeping up with dispels on the other side, which in a bg can happen quite often (let alone in the chaos that is Wintergrasp).

I very rarely find myself casting Penance offensively. I'm too afraid put it on cooldown and then need it for healing.

And of course I agree with the SW:D advice. I particularly enjoy this any time I'm playing with my husband so I can take the killing blow after he's gotten someone down to 4%.

One other thing to remember is you can power infusion to give yourself that little extra bit of burst when you're trying to nuke someone down. Its not a lot but it helps, also your offensive spells tend to be your most expensive in terms of mana so its a nice little efficiency booster as well.

If you're fighting a mage however, you keep SW:D off cooldown. As soon as he tries to Polymorph you, wait 'till the last moment and then use it on him - his Polymorph will go off just as your SW:D hits him, you will then turn into a sheep and then the reflective SW:D damage will hit you and remove the sheep. It's a nifty trinket that can ***** over mages.

Discipline Priests have pretty solid offensive ability, as healers go. On the other hand, our healing, dispels and prevention are even better, so worrying about who is getting killing blows is probably counterproductive. Still, there are times, especially in the arena, where switching from support to offense can tip the scales in a big way.

My dial-a-burst routine is a macro that triggers power infusion + hyperspeed accelerators as it casts holy fire. I follow that up with mind blast and shadow word: death. That’s a ton of damage in less than 3 seconds--not something to use over and over if you’re dueling someone from 100-0, but great for knocking someone vulnerable out of a fight.

Mana burn is not the powerhouse it once was, but it is still a good offensive tool against PVE-geared casters, other priests, hunters and moonkin. Reflective shield pays off against melee.

Also keep in mind that borrowed time will last until you cast a non-instant spell, so you could shield yourself, then follow up with shadow word pain, devouring plague, penance, and holy fire/mana burn on a target, getting massive haste for every cast.

Or you could just figure all the killing blows the people you heal get count as yours.

I covet this macro. I must make one.

From my experience fighting disc priests, Mana Burn destroys retribution paladins. Judgement will only return 20% mana if it damages the target and it is usually a rets opening attack (slightly ranged and ignores armor). So it will be fully absorbed by PW:S. If you dot the pally up as they close to you, and fear after the judgement you should spam mana burn. Try to time your shield before each judgement; it has an 8 second cooldown They can continue to try to nuke you but they will be bleeding health and mana all the while.

Holy light is ~1300 mana and rets never have more than 5800 total. Once they are oom, they can't dispel dots, heal, or cc you. Just keep burning as they go above 300 mana or so.

You've gotten a lot of good offensive tips.

Personally, if I'm in a BG, I'm looking for who needs shielding, healing, dispelling, penance. If I'm being attacked, I'm shielding, healing myself, and hitting my nitro boosts to get the heck out of there. I have no desire to go toe to toe in a BG offensively. I try to be as annoying as possible to the other faction by keeping everybody else up.

I played some (30) games with a feral today.

My offensive ideas went straight out of the window.
649 resillience, 20.5k hp? Not much more than a cardboard shield versus the automatic machine gun that is double dps when they're focusing me.

Arena's a somewhat weird ballgame for disc priests though. Pre-1000 resilience, we suck balls. Post-1000 resilience, we kick everybody's asses.
