Question re best weapon for lvl 25 shamanFollow

#1 Sep 15 2009 at 12:27 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a level 25 Tauren Shaman, speccing elemental. I've been using a one-hand mace and a shield. My question is which one-handed mace is best for me to equip for the next several levels?

1. Sergeant's Warhammer of Healing (12-24 dmg, 8.6 dps, 2.10 speed, +2 spell power); or
2. Skeletal Club (28-53 dmg, 15.6 dps, 2.60 speed, Chance on hit: Sends a shadowy bolt at the enemy causing 30 Shadow damage).

For combat right now I stand as far away as possible from the mob and spam as many Lightning Bolts as I can (usually 2-3) until the mob gets to me and starts hammering on me (assuming it is not a caster). Then I bash it senseless with my mace until it is dead. I keep Water Shield up at all times and keep Flametongue Weapon on my mace. In case it makes a difference, here is a link to the armory so you can take a look at my other gear: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Thrall&n=Abequa

Generally I like any +spell power gear I can find but you can see from the armory link that I'm wearing quite a bit of it (I think). The Skeletal Club dropped off a mob earlier today and I was going to sell it at the AH. But it is a really nice one-hand mace and does quite a bit more damage than the Sergeant's Warhammer of Healing, so I thought I would check before I get rid of it. Especially because I'm still at such a low level that I think I am still a hybrid shaman and not a real elemental shaman yet.

I would appreciate any advice about whether to hang on to the Skeletal Club or not. Thanks!

Doing good so far judging from your Armory.

Make sure you finish off Elemental Fury though, you need 5/5 to be able to get Lightning Mastery when you get down there. You can also use another glyph, you can have 2 until 80, then you can have 3. Major and minor, but minor's aren't very important. Water Shield major might be worth it, when you get higher you can replace with Lava Burst or TS.

If I was you, I'd sell the Skeletal Club. It's a very good weapon to level/twink with, and players who have rich 80's will snatch it up. Maybe not for alot to them, but alot of gold to you, enough to fund your adventures for awhile. While you're in the AH upgrade to something more your level, but still cheap. Leveling stuff get's replaced by quest/instance gear along the way, relatively easily.

DPS on a weapon is kind of important to Ele seeing as you can melee bits away, but once you get higher, maybe around 40, caster weapons don't deal as much damage as melee ones no matter what you do, at that point you spam spells.

Thanks for the reply! I'll admit the thought of adding the gold to my coffers sounds good. I think eventually I'd like to dual spec elemental/resto so I need to save all the gold I can right now. I've actually finished off elemental fury now and started putting points in eye of the storm. It looks like I can't add another major glyph until I get to 30, but I'm close now, so should be soon. Thanks again for the advice!

I wouldn't worry about gear too much. You'll be leveling so fast, and quest gear should be fine.

As has been said already do not worry to much about gear as you level or even equipping any blues you loot that can be sold , i take the gold almost every time on anything i can sell unless i have an alt that it would be a very good upgrade for and even then if its worth a lot i would rather sell the item.

I use an addon called RatingBuster which has helped me a lot in working out what is a better item to equip so you may find that a great help as it compares items and will give you a good idea what stats you gain or lose.

I do buy items but i find i make so much gold even at low level i can easily afford to go a little crazy at times and buy something special , its all up to you and your gear is pretty good from what i saw.
