Having threat issues..:(Follow

Lately i have found myself unable to keep threat vs some classes that put up 4-5k ish dps.. >.< This is not usually a problem though, seeing as i am in a very relaxed guild that does not focus as much on raiding. We are only 8/14 into Ulduar 10 atm, and have not even tried ToC 10 man yet. Basically we do not have anyone with this kind of dps in my guild, so i do fine on guildruns. I have pugged a few VoA 25 runs these last few weeks though, and in a few of those i have had some threat issues on boss fights. For the records, i have never actually lost threat, but according to Omen i have been really close. Its actually quite frustrating having to worry about losing aggro every second during a fight..:(

Anyways, here is a link to my char: http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Doomhammer&n=Cyanice

As u can see from the armory, i am tanking in blood. My single-target tanking rotation looks something like this: IT > PS > HS > HS > DS
I then mostly use HS and the occasional DS to make death runes(and ofc get some health back if the healers are slacking O.o)
Then i use pestilience to refresh my diseases. I have also macroed in so that i use Rune Strike whenever i click HS or DS, which kinda makes the tanking abit easier. Still, im barely able to produce more threat than a few classes in a pug.. :( These issues have mainly came from warlocks, dont know if that is relevant..

I am just abit curious on what i am doing wrong..? Is my gear just good enough to hold threat vs 4-5k dps? Am i missing some "huge threat generating talent/ability" ?

Any input or feedback would be highly appreciated..;)

Cheers

It's not your problem. It's the DPSes problem to not take agro from you.
I have a hunter doing that kind of damage in VoA and other places and I have to keep an eye on Omen all the time.

In our guild we have a very well geared DK tank. He has lots of gear from ToC 25. In fights like VoA, wich are very easy for DPS, I have to use Feign Death at least once. More if there a lesser geared tanks.

But still, it's not your problem to deal with. DPS has to look at Omen and think a little too. :)

It amuses me to no end when I see a DPS' party frame light up due to aggro and the resulting death of said DPS. When they start blaming me, though, the amusement ends.

Especially when it's a Hunter or Rogue.

Azena pretty much covered it. DPS should hold back/slow down their dps until you are able to get a good lead on threat and if they don't and end up pulling hate, that's their fault. As for your problem with locks, I've always noticed that warlocks generate a lot of threat so I think that's just their class in general. And as for your gear, it seems fine.

I think the main problem may be that some of those other players are used to having paladin tanks, which from my experience, produce a ton more threat than other tanking classes (which is why their threat is getting nerfed next patch lol)

Many times warlocks skip the talents that reduce their threat. Last night there was a near all out brawl in trade chat about this very discussion. Apparently it was inflammatory to suggest bad DPS pulls aggro.

I've seen so many hunters and rogues die to pulling threat over the last few months its sickening. Back in BC I feign death and misdirect were almost a part of my rotation when it came to threat issues. I just love it when these hunters come into my raid, start too early, don't misdirect, pull aggro while tank is maneuvering boss (Say sartharion), and then start yelling about bad tanks.

How many times do I have to say WAIT to DPS before the boss is positioned? How long have you had the skill feign death? How long have you had misdirect? Oy vey.

Are you sure you're in Frost Presence?

Thank you for your "support".. ;)

And yeah, im definately in frost presence.. ;)

Allright, i agree that the dps have to watch omen and adjust to that. On the other hand, i do not want the dps to "hold back". I want them to be able to go "all-out" and still be able to hold aggro.. Guess thats just not possible at the moment.. :(

Was thinking about trying out frost tanking, but seeing as everyone is saying that blood is the best single-target tanking spec, that might be pointless then i guess?

Not 100% sure, but your rotation must be off (or timing or something) if you're not holding against 4-5k DPS with your current level of gearing. My warrior is less geared than you, and can hold against 6k single target (5 man, so no Tricks, no Misdirect). Are you hitting abilities on CD, or are you putting gaps between your abilities? Are you losing threat on single target or AOE?

Locks can be notoriously spiky on threat at the beginning of fights. Maybe they need to slow down a little to start, then open up once you get solid threat? Once you get going though, 4-5k shouldn't be enough to pull off you if you're doing your job.

Aye tabstopper, thats what i thought as well, that i should be able to keep aggro vs 4-5k dps with my current gear.. But i just cant see what i should be doing different than what im doing at the moment..>.<

As i said, on single targets i always open with IT > PS > HS > HS > DS, and Rune Strike gets used whenever its up, seeing as i have macroed it in with the other abilities i use. After the opening i usually just spamclick my HS, with the occasional DS. And i use pestilience to refresh my diseases so that they are always up. I have managed to hold aggro vs 5-6k dps on several occasions mind you, so it might have something to do with the dps`ers threat reducing talents etc as mentioned earlier.

I just got the feeling that i am doing something wrong, or failing do so something, but i just fail to see what it is..>.<

Is your A/C hacked? I only see a mining pick as weapon.

Threat is very dependent on weapon because these days, tank's own DPS contributes to TPS as well (on top of a good rotation).

Of coz, smart DPS would watch their threat, but... if DPS have to watch their threat, it usually mean there is a mismatch in gear level. (assuming skill level is same).

On some content, DPS having to hold back = wipe.

So it's not ALWAYS DPS fault. Tanks need to be properly geared.

There does seem to be something fishy going on with that account, there are very few pieces of gear at all equipped, and the OP mentioned "my guild", but the character is not in any guild.

Unfortunately my account was indeed hacked on 18th september.. It was turned into a battle.net account, so i did not have any way of logging in or changing my password..:( After filling out a complaint form at eu.blizzard.com, and having guildies which i know in RL put in a complaint to a GM, i got control back of my account, which was stripped for everything that was sellable.. Absolutely everything.. Even my lvl 21 warlocks wand that probly sold for less than 10 silver.. Got a mail from blizzard that said they were doing a research and that i would be contacted later regarding any lost items/gold. They did not say anything how long this could take though, which makes me abit uncomfortable.. :/

Any1 else been so unfortunate to experience this? In that case, have u gotten your gear and stuff back, and how long did it take?

Cheers

Indeed my account has been "compromised".. It was turned into a battle.net account which prevented me from logging in and changing password as well..:( They stripped all my chars clean, except from tier and emblem stuff.. Got a few guildies that put in a complaint to GM, and i filled out a form at eu.blizzard.com, which gave me the control of my account back..

I got both an ingame mail and an e-mail saying that blizz was looking into the matter, and i would be contacted regarding lost items/gold. But i havent heard anything from them yet, hence still the lack of gear. Has any1 else had any experience with this and knows how long i can be expected to wait until i hear something? I was also told that i should not conctact any GM`s about it, because there was already an investigation initiated. >.<

Definately getting one of those blizzard authenticators now though, if they are abit easier to get hold of than a while back..?

Cheers

My account was hacked.... they sold most of my gear and created level 1 characters on a dozen new realms, I'm guessing to spam gold selling website ads. Luckily they weren't cruel about it and didn't delete any of my characters etc.

Get your guildies to make sure "you" didn't take any items from your guild bank, when my account was hacked they also wiped clean 5 guild bank tabs.

Blizzard gave me and my guild all of our gear and mats back as far as I can tell. I noticed a few things were missing and talked to a GM about it, they got back to me the next day with the rest.

So don't stress too much, Blizz will look after you!
