Quivers now worthless?Follow

Just noticed the changes to quivers (no speed bonus) and ammo (stacks 1k high now) on my hunter alt and gotta say that I'm hard pressed to find any value in using a quiver anymore?

Yes, being able to carry five times as much ammo as I previously carried certainly has a degree of appeal, but then again, I've never burned through a fully loaded quiver in a single day and I'm good enough to remember to restock ammo that needing to only restock once a week or two isn't an issue for me.

As such, I'm thinking that my alt might be better served replacing the quiver with a nice 20 slot bag and just maintaining an inventory of, say, 4k arrows every time I head into the field or a raid (and on the off chance that's not enough, just keep adding stacks until I'm fine and have the extra space as a bonus).

Is there a hidden benefit that I'm missing?

If you're an Engineer (or have access to one), it's nice for a bit of extra storage space in the bank. My Warrior made sooooooo many bullets leveling up Engineering...

Also, while this applies to quivers only, you can pick one you like and stick it inside one of your bags, and if you're using a bow it ought to display for you, which is kind of neat. I don't think it works if you're using a two-handed melee weapon, though.

Sadly, the ammo went green all too quickly for my engineering alt when I grabbed the recipe, so I've only got a few stacks of it.

That is kewl that the quiver will still show up, but (not to offend the hunter mains) this is only an alt and a low priority one I'm afraid so looking good isn't an issue for it.

I did some testing on this. It seems the quiver displaying is totally determined by the weapon itself. For example the hunter starting bow and Arrowsong will display your quiver if you have one equipped but many late model bows from TBC and later do not.

I made so many razorheads leveling engineering that I decided to remake a Nerubian Reinforced Quiver I had gotten rid of and still had to find room for the excess. It did look awesome with Arrowsong, but of coarse I switched to a gun the following week.

Hmm, that's interesting!

I still have a few bows saved in my bank, I may go check it out and see which ones work and which ones don't. It might be fun to try and get a list going of which bows will allow quiver display.
