(Up the bear backside)

So me and my OH decided that we would level druids together as static characters a while. I've always wanted to level a druid but could never get past level 22. I think I made and deleted about 6 druids before this one. Still, we got to level 16 and it was dragging.

Then good ol' patch 3.2 came out and I told my OH the idea of leveling our druids as a Black and White cat pair. (Looks awesome btw) and slowly, whenever we both have time we got to 33 just dinged a couple of hours ago. I'm getting into it a lot more now though the 30's are dragging I've read up on how it gets better and better over time but the OH can't see it. He says that druid cat isn't bright enough like Paladin and Deathknight and likes seeing a big fanfare when he hits a special attack and that it's killing things too slow even with 2 of us.

I really want to level these two up. Since I got to level 70 at tbc and saw trees, I wanted to heal as resto but never had the heart to level a druid. Now I have my OH with me it feels so much easier but it's becoming a chore for him.

How do I reassure him that it does get better?
Are the 30's just a bad level range? Imp LotP seems to be a great leveling tool 40 onwards.
Does bear rage generation increase or is it always rage starved? (He's a tank at heart)
Any tips or tricks to make leveling druid more exciting for his man brain?
What specs are best to level together? At the moment, he's speccing more towards bear for when aggro control is needed while I'm specced into popping out of cat and healing. Both feral. Might be better to just go down the normal dps talent route?

I guess I'm clinging onto hope that I can get him back into druid so that I don't have to go it alone.

It's scary alone...

no one really needs to spec tank while leveling, least of all druids. the only advantage to this (and its a fairly paltry one for you since youre cat) is that he can really safely gather a large group of mobs up and start spamming swipe. since you dont get swipe (cat) until much later, you as a cat druid would be spending most of your time just going from mob to mob picking them off.

effective, but not quite as good as it could be. however, it might be a fun challenge to say "hey, lets pull that group of 10 guys and see if we can take em down without dying".

but yes, it *does* get much better. mangle makes a huge difference at 50 and 30's leveling is boring for every class anyway. you could try supplementing pvp leveling in between normal leveling to break up the monotony a bit. also, maybe try and convince him not to go so bear-centric and go more for a generalist build that incorporates some bear and some cat. generalist builds arent too good in the late game, but theyre great while leveling since it gives you good power in both forms of the feral tree without totally gimping one over the other.

Druid is painful to level until you get Mangle.

Rough it out. Its worth it.

Like going from 0 to 60 in a single level.

I don't know about level 80, but levels 70-78 was full of rage for me. Make sure you get the talent called Primal Fury. Combined with a decent crit rating, it'll make things sweet.

On this note in particular, I want to say that you'll rarely see "big fanfare" when you hit Druid attacks; there are rarely 5-digit crits until you get into extreme gear levels, and even then it tends to be a "when the stars and moon align" type issue. Our abilities are also not flashy; there's no giant explosion, no particle effects. If that's what you're looking for, Druid is probably not for you.

However, Druid is very good at killing things fast. Once you get Mangle you'll get a huge boost to bleed effects and can stack Rake and Rip to great effect. Even when I first started off in LK I was already killing much faster than I did in BC simply because of the way they buffed Rake. Most non-elite monsters I fight now die faster than the FFF cooldown. ILOTP makes an efficient grinding machine as well since you get health back on every crit (and you'll crit a lot).

So I guess it really depends on what you're actually looking to get out of it. Druid is a blast, I took it to 80 for a reason...but seeing huge flashy numbers isn't really one of them. That doesn't mean I don't top DPS charts though Smiley: grin

Srsly who is this Kate that you droods keep talking about? Does Katie come over from the OOT and chill with y'all in between being annoying and being really annoying?

(Also, grats!!!)

OP, might I suggest that you have him try out Balance? It's the flashiest a Druid can get, and he may find it a nice change from Feral. I know he'll be too low for Moonkin for for a while, but even in caster form he should be fine, since he'll have you around. ;)

I'm afraid it's a fetish of sorts I've started here.

It's also why I haven't changed my avatar in ages. I did it once and got two or three PMs telling me to change it back, so until I find a more hotness picture of Kate, it stays. Smiley: sly

DO NOT MOCK THE RAGING TEDDY BEAR!

Unfortunately, I somehow lost that image and I have no idea where I found it.

Before the teddy bear and Kate, I used to have this avatar:

It was also much appreciated. Smiley: thumbsup

I would gladly let Kate use my hands to lift and separate... and other things.

My OH is now doing mass amounts of homework all the time. Gogo accelerated med term classes! So I now just wow on my laptop in the living room with her while she is amassing large piles of notecards.

Oh, I make her breakfast too. Brownie points!
