So our guild recently got a new feral (cat) at level 80 and were trying to get him Ulduar ready. We made some progress, but still have some unfinished business. He's a bit new to the game himself, but catching on fast. I've been trying to help but unfortunately kitty isn't my strong point; so I thought I'd turn things over to the experts.

Him

Personally I'd like to some different red gems, and a couple of changes in the build, but again I can't say I know cat all that well. Any advice?

He is way low for ArP gemming.

He should be all Agi and a single +10 all stats to make his meta work.

I think he is using the wrong leg patch as well. If he shares with a bear set then fine but they have a DPS leg patch that is better.

Have him get most of the gear from ToC reg and heroic, he should be ready then.

Have him read the sticky it is fairly fleshed out for cat DPS cycles.

Ya that was my understanding about the red gems, well it was what Rawr told me at least... :p

We're gonna spend sometime on the target dummies practicing that rotation this weekend hopefully.

And ya, he's been all through the stickies here, tis good stuff ;-)

Indeed, ArPen is not the right way to go in red sockets at the moment, straight Agi would be far preferable due to low AP and crit rate.

His gear is, for lack of a better term, very poor at the moment so it's hard to advise anything specific. He should chain-run heroics, get tons of emblems and buy at least half a gear set: 2 parts T8.5, 2 parts T7.5, a belt, gloves (current ones are good, not sure if it'd be an upgrade), boots, idol, bracers, cloak, one ring and one trinket. So yeah, lots of possible improvements through emblems alone.

Some enchants are understandably not the best for their respective item slots considering the item quality, but 2 are just not right: Legs and weapon. Legs should have the AP/Crit patch and while Mongoose eventually becomes the better weapon enchant, it is not until later gear levels. So Berserking until then (can wait for the next weapon upgrade).

As for his spec, it is considered the best single-target DPS spec. I don't personally like it very much and I think it should only be used once you know all the fights, are comfortable with them, and probably when you reach the point where you start stacking ArPen (to justify Feral Aggression).

Edit: Bah, I always take too long to post. Hope you can find something useful in there.

Since the ArP nerf is coming soon, until he gets over 450 passive ArP from gear alone, he should be going full agility with 1 nightmare tear as Horse mentioned.

Simple rotation ---Single Target--- FFF>Mangle>SR>Rake>Shred to 5cp (refreshing rake/mangle as he goes)>Rip>Maintain all buffs and bleeds using Tiger's Fury when below ~30 energy.

Keep in mind that pooling energy is ok as long as you don't sit at 100. It's better to pool energy, use a rip/SR then shred/rake/mangle away than to try and use one too early. If you see yourself getting to 100 before the SR or Rip is ready for a refresh, feel free to shred, a couple wasted combo points is better than wasted energy.

Also, it's ok to refresh SR a little early if you don't feel comfortable FB'ing because one or both timers are aligned to end close to each other. At low gear levels you typically won't have enough crits to get combo points that quickly anyway, but it's something to keep in mind.

I try to always time refreshing a Rip or SR with my Tiger's Fury getting off cooldown so I can get some quick combo points right back up there to ensure that whatever I didn't just refresh has enough points to get refreshed if they were about to run out of time together.

---AoE Target--- FFF>Mangle(Until 2pcT8 in which case you'd rake for clearcasting procs)>swipe>wait a sec> swipe>TF>Swipe spam, refreshing SR if enough time is left on mobs for it to matter, if not, continue to swipe.

I'm bored at work if you couldn't tell....I got asked to stay late and told my boss I would if he bought me dinner...so he handed me a 20 and I ordered out :P

Actually i dunno, didn't name the guild myself. I blame the other GM :p

But IMHO if you're gonna pwn someone in PvP, you should have a guild name like this over your head.

A month or so ago I killed this pally so many times in Wintergrasp(...I wasn't intentionally stalking him...<.<...>.>) that he logged onto an alliance toon to tell me to Feck off and die... His Guild name was "UrMom Likedit"

I looked for it later and it must have been flagged cause I'm on a carebear realm.
