Addicted to Tanking?Follow

#1 Sep 02 2009 at 12:08 AM Rating: Good
So something silly happened to me the other day...

I was tanking Drek in AV. It was my first time tanking on any character, so I was nervous at first. Thanks to great heals, however, we won! But I seem to like tanking... Maybe a bit too much?

My druid is only a level 60, so AV is my only option for tanking anything challenging. I've been over-doing it a bit lately. So much, that I got a black battlestrider in just one day (I only needed AV marks, and I started with 0).

Has anyone else gotten addicted to tanking, or is it just me?

I only PvE, but yes tanking can be addictive. It's also: either you love it or hate it. I have 3 tanking toons. Druid, pally, and DK.

Hehe... Good to know I'm not the only one!

I prefer to dps in pugs (where I can outdo most of the other folks) and tank in guild raids (where my gear's actually pushed to the limit). Naturally I end up tanking pugs and dpsing raids.

I almost exclusively tank.

I PuG tank periodically.

I usually only DPS when doing 5 mans with guildies after questing. Usually since I will still be in DPS spec and am a lazy man.

I have been recruited to DPS some things before and replaced the leet MT they thought they had. Good fun.

I'm actually starting to enjoy healing more in heroics (feral deeps in raids forever though). Mainly because I can just sit back and click on frames instead of haveing to run around madly chasing mobs, not pulling agro and following the crazy feral "rotation". The agro issue in particular is a problem when Pugging the heroic daily. A tank in blues is not a good match for feral dps in Coliseum & Uld25 epics :)

Last night I tanked Blood Furnace. I had lots of trouble keeping agro because the dps paladin couldn't control his damage output. They really need to shorten the cooldown on Growl by at least 3 seconds. It was actually a good group, though, besides the crazy paladin. Best pug I've ever been in. I've found it's usually easier to find good pugs as level 60s than as level 70s or 80s.

I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the control that comes with being the main tank. However, I find it is also a lot more responsibility than I care to take on at present. I did my stint of it in times past, and now I enjoy being the main healer for our instance runs. I also enjoy being dps, but I find that it "can" be the least involved role in a group and I often get bored with it.

Here's to more people who like to tank! Makes it easier for the rest of us who don't, hehe. /salute!

I enjoy tanking a ton more than DPS. Two days ago in Heroic Nexus our healer needed to go take a bathroom break right at the entrance. So I ran to the enemies, with the party in tow asking "Uh... we waiting for the healer?"

"Nope," I said, "I'm not known as 'The Insane' for nothing!"

Managed to get to the first boss and wait for the healer to show up Smiley: lol

I did that once on the first dragons/spark pull just after the mage boss. I figured I'd live long enough for the "afk a sec" healer to catch up. He got back when I was fine, but it turns out he couldn't tell his *** from his elbows, had no idea where we were (though he'd been boasting about how well he knew the instance) and was running away from us as I died, followed by the dps.

I definitely love to tank. I missed it the whole time I was dpsing, but now I miss dpsing since I went back tank lol.

There's nothing more fun than buffing up to realize you have more HP than half the warrior and paladin tanks you know before shifting to bear form :P

Also, pulling an entire room, popping barkskin, spamming swipe and maul and watching yourself top the meters in heroics is always fun :P

Nothing like having 42% crit, 5.5k attack power, hit capped and exp soft capped in a set of tank gear capable of pulling 3-5k dps on trash :P

I can't wait til I get to 80 and can tank heroics lol. Druids are fun.

The problem with druids is that they can tank and heal equally well, so I keep switching back and forth between a tree and bear spec to compliment my cat... Just can't make up my mind.

I see a tendency, though. Both my warrior and DK are tanks too...
