Tier Bonuses: Mixing or Stacking?Follow

Tonight (or next time I log), I will finally be getting my last piece of T8 gear, the chest. For disc, it will allow me to move that fifth piece around. The 4 piece bonus is impossible to ignore for disc, but for holy, I see a bit of leeway as far as gear selection goes.

In my holy kit, I had been mixing in a couple of T7 pieces for the extra PoM jump on certain fights. I am not sure how much it comes into play though. I think I am recasting it before it ever gets to the sixth person. It worked well for Sapph and a couple other Naxx bosses, but I can only think of two fights in Ulduar (XT and to a lesser extent, Hodir) where it would ever have a chance to benefit from the T7 two piece bonus. Are there any other places it may come into play?

Should I even worry about the T7 bonus? I don't gimp my stats too much by using two pieces, but the real question will come into play when the T9 two piece bonus (+20% PoM heal) happens. Probably pretty situational, but is it still worth considering?

As a general guide, I'm trying to raise the ILevel of all my slots with appropriate gear. If I have to lose a lower level set bonus, that's sort of the nature of things. In a year or so we will be replacing them with new items from the expansion anyway.

I wouldn't worry too much about mixing. You generally give up too much stats for it to work. Unless we're compagin 7.5 to 8 here. You're usually better off grabbing 4 holy items of one tier and the last one as shadow - shadow tends to hold some better stats for us.

Normally I'd go tell someone who asks a gear question to go check the spreadsheet and check for yourself but I think there's no such thing for healing priests.
So in that case it's checking how much stats you are losing for not using the highest ilevel pieces and compare that to how good (or bad) the setbonus is.

Oh, it is the 7.5, shoulders and legs. And as much as I like the extra crit from the 7.5, I do miss the haste from the T8 gear when I change them out. But you are probably right, I am putting too much thought into yesterday's news. Better to move on to new shinies!

I wish there was a spreadsheet, more times than not it comes down to personal playstyle once a certain gear threshold is achieved. Ever since DA started stacking, I have been a big proponent of crit for disc and rarely went into a raid under 30% raid buffed. When I started getting the T8 gear, all the haste was unavoidable, and I began to appreciate it more. I think my playstyle has adapted to the gear rather than me gearing for my playstyle.

If there was a spreadsheet, it would look something like this:
SP.....INT.....Haste.....Crit.....Spirit.....# of wipes caused by undergeared healer
?.........?........?...........?.........?..........if x>0, run moar heroics!

As disc you really want the t8 bonus over the t7, the stats alone make up for it but then you have the 250 that's pretty much constant

I've been compareing and it looks like 2p t9.5 (not the janky 9) will be worth it but I wouldn't break the 4p before
you had 2 items.

I'd go with the shadow head if its an option or a better chest if you can.

It's kind of guess work and in reality there is no right or wrong way as a priest. You either heal, or heal for slightly more :)

Has some intresting views on this subject

Hopefully in a few weeks of stacking VoA groups I'll get some lucky drops and rock a 4p =P

30% crit doesn't sound that impressive to me.

Then again, I'm used to playing a hunter and I have over 50% crit raidbuffed.

Did you play a priest pre-TBC though, when 15% crit was a lot for us? =P

Damn Aethien, since you arrived here all posts degrade into small talk discussions after 3 or 4 serious replies =P

I actually reached 65% crit raidbuffed in BC.
But I was a ***** for agility back then. (Ooh baby SV was so hot!)
