Disc raid dps?Follow

Hey there,

I'm playing disc priest in raids atm and always been a fan of this spec.
Now I've started to wonder if it would be able to make "Disc dps" viable in raids with the right spec, stats, glyph etc..?

I've tried it out on a dummy tonight and only got like 2100dps with t7'ish shadow gear (for hit). I noticed that it might req. alot of crit to proc the instant smite talent (like 30-40'ish?) enough.
I tried with pure holy fire / smite spam, and SW:P / holy fire / smite and they did like the same dmg. I was able to crit for like 5.5k with smite while having holy fire debuff on the target.

The only problem I'm seeing is that I'm going oom fast (after like 2mins of spamming) and not having enough crit for talent proc to get free instant smite.

Anyway, would this might be worth trying to gear and enchant for? or will it never be a viable spec as dps in raids?

It's not going to be happen. As it stands for me, holy DPS > disc DPS by about 100-200 DPS. Disc DPS does allow me to go for about 3 minutes though, while as holy I run oom after 2 (having used shadowfiend). In my "holy DPS gear" (which is leftover Ulduar 10 cloth gear with +hit on it) I pull off around 1400 DPS, and I have to say I'm very surprised you're even getting above 2K (though then again, you are disc/holy instead of full disc and you are probably hit capped).

It could be fun for heroics, but I wouldn't do anything else with it.

Intresting idea, kind of a 5th healer/hybrid dps (25 man raid)

...spam shields on the raid and bring some dps

But holy/disc dps has never worked, and I don't think it ever will

There is a reason why we have a dps tree


That being said, you can still do most of that stuff on some fights to help out anyway
