arms/furry leveling?Follow

Well I havnt done much research on this subject as of yet but figured I'd start off here because you all are usaully pretty helpful and the EJ forums arnt as friendly.

I had a few questions about leveling a warrior. I RAF a warrior and a few other toons to 60 and have now decided to work on my warrior. I actaully started the proccess and got to level 65 going furry before the TG nerf but then decided to level my shamman first.

Anyways my questions are in regards to the fastest leveling spec for a warrior meaning least amount of down time and most damage out put. I have specced arms with what I'm looking at now to be a bad spec so I will be respecing, so is furry or arms the way to go? Which rotaion should I be using to get the most out of my rage? what stance should I be using or should I be switching back and fourth?

Thanks in advance!

The crazy thing I've found about leveling a warrior is that you can't have the least downtime and the most damage at the same time. Leveling prot has the least downtime and with a slow 1h + shield your damage output will typically be enough to keep things moving rather nicely. Either of the dps specs will potentially kill much faster, but you're more vulnerable to incoming damage and without the option to self heal, you can spend a lot of time eating/bandaging. I have a Draenei warrior (just hit 75) and when he had really good gear, dps spec was lots of fun. For me personally I'm not really interested in keeping him in top-notch gear through the leveling process and I wound up respeccing him prot at around 69/70 and haven't looked back. Even with Gift of the Naaru, there were a lot of times leveling as dps where bandages and GotN would be on cooldown and I'd have to stop and eat before I could continue. As prot I can go forever and the only situation where I might have to stop and bandage/gift/eat is if I've been grinding on large groups. I don't get the big sloppy crits of a dps spec but I enjoy it. Your mileage may vary...it's just something you have to play around with and find what works best for you.

I've also found that it's better to take less damage while leveling than to do more output damage. As prot I kill a little slower but I find myself continuing on more and stopping to eat/bandage a lot less. I still keep a dps set of gear but stay prot specced. It helps increase my dps a bit but still take a decent amount of damage output. Most tanking gear isn't useful outside of a group anyways.

I also leveled 70-80 as prot and found it to be much faster than I anticipated. I started with decent prot gear (Mostly Kara epics), and found that I could solo pretty much any quest that wasn't a 5 man elite quest. I was even able to do a few of those. I had almost no downtime, as most mobs couldn't do enough damage to hurt me, and the occasional bandage was all I needed. Prot also allows you to take large groups that you may find difficult as Arms or Fury. Leveling as prot had the additional advantage of being one of the highly sought after roles for instances. If you have rested XP and multiple quests to do in an instance, running instances can be a great way to level and break the monotony of grining out quests.

Now, if you don't plan to tank end-game, then I'd suggest you pick whatever you think you'd prefer. If you don't have access to 2 good 2h weapons, you're probably better off going Arms, but either of those two specs should be fine. It's all about what you'd prefer to play.

I am leveling Prot right now, and definitely take a while to kill things, but have pretty much no downtime even when my pet healer isn't around. (With him, though, things are crazy fun.) I'm an odd one, though, and go for tanking gear over dps gear just in case I feel like running an instance--I imagine leveling with a prot spec and DPS gear would be better. Smiley: tongue
