You could start here: FAQ

But I can tell you are far to important to bother reading, So I will distill all of that knowledge down to one little shot glass of info for you to use.

Go Frost and choose a 2 handed Axe. You will melt faces. Also never ever and I mean f'ing ever use Will of the Forsaken. Only losers use that ability.

I should of known better then to think i'd actually get anything but condescending, smart remarks. Seeing as how Theo's guide was last updated a 10 months ago(yes i read it) and there have been some patches i was just curious if those specs were still the best. So if anybody has anything constructive to say thank you, if not continue on with the hilarious sarcasm. el oh el.........

Dion,

First, and foremost, let me welcome you to the rogue forums. It's a little taste of heaven, sometimes.

It is true the the rogue FAQ hasn't been updated in awhile. However, did you not see this thread? Also, if you noticed in the Rogue FAQ, Theo linked a combat sword spec to level 70. Most rogues level combat until at least 50, which is when you can get Mutilate.

If you look down the first page in the rogue forums, you will see at least 4-5 threads about specs. Therefore, you should be able to understand why we get frustrated about someone asking the same questions over and over.

The Rogue FAQ may seem out-of-date, but there are only a few things in it that are(i.e. raiding specs, and that is only because it is for level 70, instead of 80).

We really don't like being jerks to people, but imagine if you answer the same questions over and over again, and the threads are on the same page with a "leveling spec" title.

combat is probably still the best right? I haven't played my rogue since last year, so what do I know. But I still think it's probably the best, maybe not the funnest, but the best.

But I dislike cookie cutter specs. You don't really need one for levelling. Just read the descriptions and choose which talent seems like will fit your play style the best. Levelling is so easy you don't need an optimum build. Gear far outweighs talents anyways (unless you really do silly things with your talents like spread it across 3 tress)

That excludes you, like most statements about being nice.

You're "that guy" who comes in and makes a smart/evil remark and makes others laugh.

Along with what Feyras said... try this for weapon searching.

I know the topic is a week old, but I want to reiterate what Feyras said.

I personally leveled combat until 50... 50-somethng? Combat had a lot of good going for it. Until I started getting some decent hit on my gear, it kept me from missing quite so much. I went swords, but I hardly ever saw the extra sword swing proc, so that seemed useless. Taking on multiple enemies was pretty easy, which was a plus before I got some nicer cooldowns like vanish and blind. It definitely felt a lot "sturdier" than Mutilate.

That said, mutilate at around level 50 was AWESOME. It's what I think of when I think of rogues. You sneak up and enemies are dead before they know it. But if you get a couple of enemies at once, you take a lot more damage, so it makes you pick your fights more.

Once I got to 60 or so, I started throwing points into random places outside of assassination. Relentless Strikes was awesome, and Opportunity was practically mandatory. Camouflage was useful for moving quicker and getting stealthed again quick; my fights typically lasted 5 seconds, and waiting 10 seconds for stealth to come back stinks. I'll probably end up going into combat for Precision (although I have a ton of hit rating already; 14.69%) and then into Dagger Spec.

All that said, I have amazing gear due to heirloom items, which as a new player you can't get. IF you can't get really good daggers (and you won't until at least 57-58), then combat is a safer route. When I hit 68 I started laughing like crazy, as my daggers jumped about 35 DPS each (from around 55 to almost 90). Without heirlooms you have to buy your way to that power jump (and the selection on the AH might be limited), and your results will still be poorer.

TL;DR: Combat until 50, then see what daggers you have and try out Mutilate. If you like it, take it. If not, forget it until you get Outland daggers. In fact, waiting until 57-58 gets you Opportunity and Relentless Strikes, both of which are awesome for Mutilate's build. Might as well wait!

Or, if you don't want to read:
Items that scale with your level, have no durability, can be traded between characters on your account of the same faction and server, and may provide an experience bonus. Current slots for heirloom items are shoulders, chest, trinkets, main-hand/off-hand/two-hand weapons, and ranged. They are roughly equivalent to BoE blue drops of the same level (BoP blue drops of the same level are usually a tiny bit stronger, but obviously don't scale).
