I've lost my leveling mojoFollow

#1 Aug 24 2009 at 5:15 PM Rating: Decent
So I've got a little baby Shaman, a Draenei Female. She is level 51. Before Wrath launched, I could play her well enough for the level, but since Lava Lash, my mind has... broken, when it comes to Enhancement Shaman.

So, what kind of rotation would I use for my level? I'm completely lost.

Enhancement doesn't really have a rotation so much as a set of priorities that determine which ability you used based on the ones you have off cooldown. At level 51, it would basically be:

1) Stormstrike
2) Earth Shock
3) Lava Lash

That's about it. Once you've got 5/5 in Maelstrom Weapon, it changes to:

1) Lightning Bolt/Chain Lightning (if 5 stacks of MW)
2) Stormstrike
3) Earth Shock
4) Lava Lash

In other words, you'd have that priority list in the back of your mind and then with each attack you key, you're basing your decision on that list. In some ways it works out to a rotation of sorts, but our cooldowns don't sync worth a damn so it can get a bit wonky at times. It may seem a little sparse but once you fill out your options with Maelstrom Weapon instant cast lightning shenanigans, you barely get a spare cooldown here and there for Wind Shear or to re-drop totems.

So it's basically FCFS, Shaman edition?

Paladins use the same system. Good to know, though. Is there a spec I should be using for leveling? I know I'm asking a lot here, I'd just like to level her again.

Yea it looks stupid, but Improved Shields, Dual Wield Spec and Static Shock are halfway because before they can get full, new and better priorities pop up.

Level 55 - http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#hZG0xIoxzIhdRRuz:fdZzm

Level 60 - http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#hZG0xIoxzIhdRRuVo:fdZzm

Level 70 - http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#hVbhZG0xIoxzIhdRRuVo:fdZzm

After that do whatever I suppose. It's wonky because leveling is different from Level 80 DPS. Once you hit 80 you can go ahead and respec for max DPS.

Just my suggestion, follow it loosely, mileage will vary, etc.

As a enchantment spec shaman I used this rotation, and still do with considerable success.

Try to have some distance between you and the target. That way you can inflict a good deal of damage before they even land one blow. First one is melee type targets, and second is for spellcasting types that don't advance towards you.

Melee
1) Lightning Bolt
2) Flame Shock
3) Lava Lash
4) Stormstrike
5) Earth Shock
Repeat steps 3-5 to finish off targets that last a bit longer.

Spellcasters
1) Lightning Bolt
2) Windshear
3) Lava Lash
4) Stormstrike
5) Earth Shock
Repeat steps 3-5 to finish off targets that last a bit longer.

Windshear is great way to cause spellcasters to advance, since they are interrupted and unable to start a new spell. They naturally just come at you to engage in combat.

/castsequence reset=combat stormstrike, earth shock, wind shear, lava lash, water shield, earth shock, lava lash

That is my macro currently for my enhancement shaman been using it since i hit outlands and just adding onto it as needed, just recently added in wind shear though i may move it's position or take it out completely.

Feel free to use it there is of course clipping and such but overall im happy with it and my damage while questing has been greatly increased through it's use, single button click allows me to focus on other spells that need triggering at w/e times.

I've just come back to WoW from a long break, and I know what you mean about Lava Lash. I was always wishing for more moves to blow GCDs on, but Lava Lash seems like one too many (though I'm thrilled to bits with Maelstrom Weapon). With a glance at EJ's and a bit of practice you get the hang of it though.

Basically, Lava Lash is the button you push only when there is F-All else to press. Don't feel guilty about not pushing that button if you have anything better to do; it's bottom of the priority list.

As for specs, aim for this at level 60. Ignore Enhancing Totems and Improved Windfury Totem for the time being; when you're leveling/questing, most fights are over too quickly to justify the GCD to drop totems. At 61+ go into the Elemental tree up until Elemental Fury (picking up Elemental Devestation along the way of course).

I picked up Convection instead of Concussion because I thought efficiency would be the most important thing for leveling, but I've realised this was a mistake. I've not been out of mana since I installed WotLK, and I've hardly touched Shamanistic Rage. Often I've found myself spending Maelstrom procs on Chain Lightning rather than Lightning Bolt even on a single target, despite it costing three times as much mana and doing slightly less damage, simply because it looks slightly cooler. Elemental Focus would be a total waste, incase you're wondering.

I've not tried Static Shock yet; I've heard this is more of a raiding talent, that you would have trouble supporting solo or in a small group, but I find it hard to imagine anything making a Enhancement Shaman OOM with the way things are set up at the moment.
