My wife and I just started a pair of druids. She likes to play the caster types and I'm tired of tanking for her :). Therefore my question is, would you level as two balance druids or a balance and a restoration? I can see the two balance being fun, but I imagine there a some synergies to be gained by having one of each.

I appreciate your comments.

PS I have read, but not studied the FAQ :)

In my personal opinion id go Resto and balance, and since moonkins got some extra armor, a little more than the tree, she could hold up some mobs (without abusing it) and aoe them while you heal her

I leveled in northrend paired up with my brother the mage as resto, I had him tanking those elite quest mobs and I was healing him pretty good so I think a moonkin could even do better at holding them up. Id say its a very versatile combo in PvE and questing.

can't say much for azeroth and outland leveling but my wife burned through Northrend on her own as boomkin, only needing help on elites that were meant for 3+ people

Boomkin is an amazingly fun class, and very versatile, and tbh, i would level duo boomkins with 1 geared with mp5/spirit gear, over boomkin/tree.

For all intensive leveling purposes a boomkin can do everything a tree can, mobs wont be alive long enough for mana to be an issue, and when they are you have innervate to pull you out of a near fatal OOM, just pick which one of you wants to be the offhealer for bad pulls/elites and be ready to throw heals when needed

With a balance & resto druid together, I imagine there would be a fair bit of cross-over as far as gear is concerned, there could be some discussion about who gets to wear what.
If you went for feral / resto, then the gear drops are already pretty much decided. Feral gets the agility stuff, tree gets the spellpower.
With dual spec available now, you should be able to tackle any situation. Since you will already have a tank and heals, if you feel like doing an instance, you just need "LF3 DPS for... " to make a group.
I would usually recommend that you pick a completely different class to pair with, like a Paladin. Also able to fulfil multiple roles, and there are no arguments over gear.

<edit> oops. some spec confusion there.

Thanks for the replies.

As far as gear goes, that's not really an issue - she gets the good stuff. I've been married long enough to figure that out for myself.

I'm guessing we'll try the dual boomkin and see what happens. If it's not working out then I'll switch to restoration.

Of course the problem there is that she will obviously have better gear, which means you can never beat her at DPS or trouble will be brewing. You walk a fine line my friend Smiley: grin
