I thought so, thanks again. Yeah this 1.4 speed dagger is getting me quite a few energy procs, I'm loving it so far.

Hey guys, just giving a status update here:

I've been 80 for two days now. I did end up leveling to 80 as Combat, and it got better and better each level as I got decent gear, so it wasn't that painful at all. Was worse in outlands than it was in northrend, that's for sure. Anyway...Just a couple minor questions here:

Well first just saying that I want to stay Combat for PvE. I'm never going to be a very serious raider or anything, so I"ll be doing heroic spam and pug raids when I can, and I think Combat will be just fine for that. Right now 20/51/0, and it's serving me quite well.

In the last two days I've been spamming instances as much as I could, and I've gotten up to around... 3700-ish gearscore. Now I hate gear score, and I'm not advocating the use of that at all right now, (not like the gear score ****'s in trade chat use it anyway), but just giving you an idea of what my gear's like. Any idea how much dps I should be pulling with my given gear? If the gearscore doesn't give you a good picture, I still have some rag-tag ilevel 170-ish blues, but I've gotten my hands on quite a few epics lately. I also have two of those Hate Forge Cleaver axes (I think they're called...) from the last boss out of Halls of Reflection. I know that's not ideal having one in offhand because of slow speed, but I haven't gotten a quick good dps offhand yet, so I'm rocking out with two of them right now.

Anyway, with that gear and spec I'm usually 3k-3.5k dps. If there's more than two mobs I just try and keep up SnD and FoK spam, if not then it's just Keep SnD up and Evisc. on trash. On bosses I'll rupture if it'll get full duration.

Problems you can point out? Tips/Tricks? I'm still relatively new to Rogue, I'm just trying to do the best I can here and learn as much as possible as quick as possible.

Also, just got epic flying, so a little short on gold atm. What's the best cost-effective enchants for weapons, and then what's the ideal best? I've picked up Berserking/Berserking is best in PvP, same in PvE? Right now since I'm a tad poor I'm getting +26agi on weapons...might be a tad gimpy but meh.

Anyway just thought I'd say what's up and that I made it to 80 and thank you all for all the great advice. :D

*points at Rate the Rogue above you thread*

Combat is fine for heroic grinding so don't worry about it.

Stop using two slow weapons. A 1.5 speed GREEN weapon would be better than having a 2.6 epic OH(well...probably).

If you compare two OH weapons, every .1 difference in speed is an effective 10 DPS increase for the faster weapon.

A 1.5 speed 90 DPS green, would be effectively 200 DPS weapon when compared to your current OH. I can't emphasize enough how much a fast OH is needed as combat.

PvE is Berserk/Berserk, no clue about cost effective.

Alright, thanks again man.

I have a dagger I'll throw in. Actually even a very good dagger, I was thinking Axe spec double attacks and ~10 higher dps on weapon would favor higher for some reason, but I suppose that energy proc is huge for dps then.

Well you've given me a very good idea of what takes priority over what, can't thank you enough!

What is the hit cap for lvl 83 bosses? I understand that raid buffs help, but unbuffed what should I shoot for? I'm lvl 77 and mutilate spec'd presently, but trying to do my homework before hitting lvl 80. Please excuse the "noobness" and thx for the advice. :)

If you are going with the cookie cutter Mutilate 51/18/2

The following values assume that you have 5/5 Precision and that you are attacking a level 83 mob (i.e., boss level).
Poisons 315 - White damage 722

The following values assume that you have 2/5 Precision and that you are attacking a level 83 mob (i.e., boss level).
Poisons 393 - White damage 820

-----------------------

Expertise Rating

For 6.5% boss dodge chance (26/26 expertise):

26 expertise (214 expertise rating) to cap.
16 expertise (132 expertise rating) to cap for rogues with 2/2 Weapon Expertise.
13 expertise (107 expertise rating) to cap for combat human rogues wielding a sword/mace.
11 expertise (91 expertise rating) to cap for combat dwarf rogues wielding a mace.
11 expertise (91 expertise rating) to cap for combat orc rogues wielding a fist/axe.

The above numbers are the expertise numbers needed from gear to cap.
The character tooltip should read 26 expertise.

First off, there is no spec currently which uses 2/5 Precision(anymore). So 315 hit minus all raid buffs/debuffs is what you want to aim for.

The white hit cap is nigh impossible to reach(maybe less so now), and the loss of stats from other places would make you do pidly DPS. If you only hit the boss for one damage a swing, who cares if you never miss?

The character sheet should say 26/26 expertise, give or take a little if you're human/orc/dwarf.

IMPORTANT NOTE: These are caps to aim for. Going over them is fine, being a tad under them is fine. If something is an upgrade but takes you 1 or 2 points below expertise cap/hit cap THATS FINE. Just make sure you try to push yourself back over. Do this with either another piece of gear, gems, or enchants.

So true, but... have to give the but. you know how many rogues do not research their class due to the welfare epic's, etc...? I have see quite a few and quite a few end up on the /ignore if they **** off when I suggest otherwise.

Just need to clarify the muilate rotation, and what people mean by spam envenom. So in most cases what i do is open with garrote( to get a bleed ) then Hfb>SnD>mut>envenom 4+ cps

What id like to know is do i envenom then envenom again i notice that somtimes envenom is rdy to use again almost right away. or do you envenom and then mut to build cps again.?

If i envenom with 4 or more cps the envenom buff is on for roughly 5-6 secs. So doing another envenom cuts that time way down not making use of the full envenom buff. To me atm it makes more sense to let the buff ride while regaining energy.

So basically should it be garrote>hfb>snd>mut>envenom>poolenergy> then mut back to 4+cps enveneom.. keeping snd and hfb up?

This thread has helped me alot since I took a long break from the game, but I have a couple more questions. As I said I've been away for several patches, and really haven't played my rogue alt since 2008.

I'm still combat, I was more familiar with that, and much has stayed the same, so it seemed easier to get back into. I may go mutilate at 80, but now I see little point. a few questions though:

1) riposte- this looks like it changed within the last year and a half. Question is it worth it? It's hard to tell from the talent tooltip if I should put points in there.

2) poisons- an above post suggestioned instant/wound even for combat. But I read somewhere else (think it was in general here at alla) that combat should be using instant/instant.

3) slice and dice- I should keep this up at all times even when solo questing right? I've been doing that, and I'm fairly happy with the results. I just wanted to make sure. I still don't seem to be doing as good as dps as my ret pally at near the same level, and just wanted to make sure I wasn't gimping myself.

thank for any help.

1) For leveling yes, for anything at 80, no.

2) Instant/Deadly for every PvE spec.

3) Yes.
