Anobix, I need you.(Fire, Gear, and Hit)Follow

So I've been shamed out of Fire due to my abysmal 248 hit. Just the other night I finally replaced my Darkmoon Card: Death with Abyssal Rune.

My average DPS with Fire was between 2.5k-3k.. not bad for Heroics but VERY UNACCEPTABLE for me, being that my guild and I are on Yogg. I've just had TERRIBAD luck at getting into raids, let alone getting drops.

Here's a link to my gear Mage gear (Also, the belt won't let me Socket it, but it's another Runed Ruby)

Now what I noticed that REALLY upset me was in AoE fights a guy with TERRIBLE gear(Naxx10, barely any 25, no tier) completely annihilated me. He was FFB as well as I am, but he had Blast Wave and Dragon's Breath. Would this not TERRIBLY gimp him on bosses? I thought so until on Loatheb he did 4737 DPS to my 2944. Granted I got -zero- Spore buffs because ****** DPS would 1shot them before they got over. He got a few but I don't know the number.

Now the other night I got into a Naxx25 and nabbed Dying Curse(71 hit rating, proc of 765SP) and Heigan's Putrid Vestments. Now this would give me a crazy 120 hit, 51 haste, 12 SP, and 17 int but I lose 135 crit, 60 spirit(so another 33 crit). I also lose T7 set bonus for Mana gem, but as Frostfire I forget to even use gems so meh.

Right now with Molten Armor and Arcane Intellect I have

27.31%(33.31% Fire) Crit, 248 Hit, 503 Haste.

If I equip the new trinket over my Sundial, and the Vest over my Tier:

23.58%(29.58% Fire) Crit, 368 Hit, 554 Haste.

It sucks because losing soooo much crit is harsh, especially when I rarely get lucky on streaks but the hit and haste.. would I be able to drop Frostfire and jump straight to Fire?

IF not, what can I do?! I have been focusing on my Pally so I have run no heroics yet for Conquest. I know need T8.5 helm is Priority #1 if I use Heigan body, if not Body to toss T7 crap. I can likely even get better everything available with Conquest over what I have.

I'm desperate in that I find it terrible to not top PuG DPS charts. Only time I did was in H ToC because Living Bomb on every add + Flamestrike -> Blizzard = holy crap

Well the way i see it, you are better off losing the 4% crit in exchange for the 120 hit rate. Personally, i have found as a fire mage, I prefer having more hit than crit because I LOVE using combustion. Plus as if you spec deep fire there are tons of talents that increase crit% for spells. Also you gain other advantages over ffb depending on how you spec. found ffb is good for leveling, but dpsing a boss is the best with deep fire. Plus a nice thing about raids is that you frequently rest so you dont have to be as mana conscious as if you were soloing

I would check out rawr to see which trinket to drop, and put the dying curse on your character.

The mana gem buff is excellent. Don't forget that it isn't just extra mana, but also a spellpower buff that you can get 3x during a 6minute fight. So I wouldn't drop your 2 2pcs for the heigan's.

It will put you a couple % below hit cap, but will probably be better dps than the new chest piece.

Heroic(5man) dps is bad for mages unless you are arcane because the guys die so fast it is all about burst. Don't fret about DPS unless you are considering 25man raid buffs, in my opinion anyway. Also remember that few fights are truly AoE fights and that single-target is far more important 99% of the time. As for your significantly lower dps on Loatheb, the spore buffs effectively give you 100% crit... huge dps increase with constant hot streak procs etc, and no threat cap.

With the new gear you should be in good enough shape to try out fireball spec. Again, check out Rawr, and see what it recommends for you. Don't forget that you will also be getting focus magic returned Procs as Arcane/Fireball as well (so you can add 3% crit to yourself for that).

Hope that helps, let me know.

Thanks Anobix, I'll run Rawr up as soon as I hand in my coursework and let you know how it looks!
