to the nay-sayers: Hunter TankFollow

#1 Aug 15 2009 at 4:19 PM Rating: Sub-Default
Before you read on I would like you to know, this is a really stupid idea but it's my goal and my stupid idea. I'm not 100% huntarded (lol maybe just 90%) I know all about the survival class and have had quite a bit of success in raiding so I know hunters are not a melee oriented class, but what's life if you don't push it a little?

I read a post about this back in BC and it was always a concept that intrigued me but I never had the balls to do it. However, after a long and funny conversation I got about 10 people who said they would give me 150g-200g each if I could pull off a wotlk hunter tank and it was the final nudge to get me to do it.

I'm not going to post my tanking set yet or spec, it's really hard to find information on hunter melee tanking (because tanking with ur pet isn't as fun :D)bc no one really does it. So I'm just gonna post my important stats here.

All unbuffed

3.39% reduced chance to be critically hit
37.86% chance to dodge
11.49% chance to parry
24k hp
1000 threat per second
(over all avoidance 54% chance to not take damage)

Yeah I have a couple ideas to increase my threat, and I still have alot of gear to get. Man but it's amazing how much damage a hunter can mitigate! Then i kind of have a shield with my glyph I can reduce all damage taken by 20% for like 5 seconds. I'm looking forward to my first low end instance!

If you're serious about raiding as BM, check out this thread.

It's from 3.1, but should give you a good idea of what to look at.

3x no to your specs.

15 or 18 points in MM is too many.
#4REDACTED, Posted: Aug 16 2009 at 6:23 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I thought 15 points in MM was required for any hunter spec?

These are the 14, you go guess which 3 BM doesn't use.

And go try to figure out where the points have to go.

Well I was in the Hunter Raiding thread and found a BM dps build and then changed it around a little then researched on other sites but I couldn't get it to produce numbers anywhere close to my survival build. So I just said ***** and decided to fulfill my dream.... a hunter tank. So I can slam 6k dps in survival then switch over and tank low end heroics :P

Hmm, haven't downed any bosses in Ulduar and you're pulling 6k dps?

And you think that you can tank?

Get the fuck out of here.

Lol yuppley that signature is from like 3-4 months ago. I worked in a boy scout camp this summer and didn't have much internet so I never did change it, but yeah we r moving through ulduar. I mostly end up tanking though on my pally for the Ulduar raids. Now we haven't attempted ToC yet. Just got an influx of new guildies so we are concentrating on gearing them up and making sure they know their class and how to raid first.

(Ps check the signature: they're like 2 bosses in VoA now, so obviously it's old and not updated.)

I broke 5300 dps in naxx, without best in slot gear for the time.

And that's not even accurate according to your charts. In most of the fights that don't require excessive movement, hunters are well over 6K. Smiley: oyvey

Dps in naxx is a lot higher than in ulduar, because nearly all naxx fights are boring stand and shoot fights.

The DPS on these charts is excessively extreme. We're talking the entire raid performing at top notch ability so heroism can be used at the right time, pets probably surviving longer than normal, potions used at the exact right time, excellent raid synergy, etc. These aren't numbers to aspire to or view as realistic, they're purely the average of the top 50 uploads to that site. Barely breaking 6k was a bit of an exaggeration, but I'd say that when you average in some of the lower DPS fights it probably isn't too far off.

That being said, there's still very little chance someone who hasn't been playing for several months can waltz into Ulduar and pull off near 6k. It's still a flat out lie unless he's including trash (still very skeptical) or talking about a fight with an intense damage boost (Hodir).

6.2k on 10 man Loatheb
I did 7.5k on 25 man (with a relatively slow group) and my guildies called me a slacker.
The last naxx25 I did with some guildies on patch I was at about 6k and I was fourth with our officer's mage topping at 7.2k

I'm far from posting god like numbers.
Oh yeah, and 4.5k dps is pretty low.
#15REDACTED, Posted: Aug 21 2009 at 1:37 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Give me any hunter on shu'halo that I am within 100 points of their gear, I can out dps them in instance. Numbers are always low there is not a time one these forums when some1 posts a number and some1 else says it low. Oh well.

Pots, can you post sober, just once?

I do around 4600 on Patch with greens, so I can see morons in good gear pulling decent DPS near 5s.

5.1k on Patchwerk 25 man

This is your max (key word there!) DPS. Don't ever claim anything else. No one cares what you can pull on a fight that gives you 50% more crit or a similar gimmick.

Jaraxxus works decently well for measuring dps too.
The adds are a bit of a distraction, but the fight has a proper length instead of the hardly more than 2 minutes of patch.

(5.9k dps there today on 25 man btw)
