Raiding FrostFollow

I'll start off with this:
I will stay frost. I KNOW that it's the worst DPS spec for a mage in raiding. I just happen to love the playstyle of ghosting Icelance on FoF, that's all.

To the meat of the post now, eh? I've read in a couple places that there comes a point where using Brain Freeze procs is worthless. I assume this is when my Frostbolt gets closer to a 1.5 second cast? I haven't been able to pull a reliable result from the target dummies on wether at my gear level BF procs are a loss in DPS.
Does anyone here know anything about this subject? I really do appreciate any help.

I believe it is actually a gear level, not necessarily a haste level. Also, Icelance isn't worthwhile either. At T7+ you are better off only throwing frostbolts - I believe.

Should have plenty of info for you though... good luck with frost raiding /snicker.

I've thought about it being an outright gear level, but I can't see -why-.
A 'haste level' makes sense to me as BF should only become a hindrance when the GCD isn't worth it compared to the cast time of FB. I'll check that link out, thanks.

The reason why would be the way that the spellpower coefficients would out benefit an unspecced fireball, would be my best guess.

Aye, lost myself in a huge day of math grinding in that EJ thread. It's certainly not for the faint of heart.
Current consensus seems to be that the optimum DPS in 3.2 is obtained through both using Brain Freeze AND ghosting FoF Ice Lances, strangely enough. Not only is it the best DPS, it's by a good 3% (puts it at only 13% lower than fire, which is a HUGE jump over where frost has been in the past!)
Someday my day will come. Until then I'm happy living in sub-6K DPS mediocrity ^_^

You really should look into deep fire for raiding. Frost is good for its low mana consumption for soloing. The benefit of raids is that you sit frequently so you dont have to be as mana conscious and you can burn through mana to top the dps charts. I was frost up until i think level 40 or 50 before any of the expansions came out, then switched to fire. Trust me, scoring insane crits and the dot that comes with fire spells if you spec right is insane.

I'm no fool, I know damn well that Frost is not only the lowest DPS mage build, but the lowest DPS build at all (except maybe BM, but it was behind it in 3.1)
My mage is an alt and I don't hide it. I do the best I can in a spec I have fun with, for sure. I don't give half a **** if I top the DPS meters on her though.

Surprisingly, some people don't care about a 700 DPS difference between spec A and spec C.

I suppose crappy people and terrible guilds with Naxx on farm won't care about -2k-3k DPS difference (lol700) but anyone decent will care.

Post a screen shot with you doing your claimed DPS (while hovering, to show it was -only- the boss) to start.
Beyond that, switch to FFB. It's like Frost but without the suck and requires no gear to be good.

You obviously missed the part when I mentioned this is an alt.
I'm on my pally tanking for our progression content.

I don't get what you mean about it not being only the boss? Personally, I don't give a **** about trash DPS.

Wow I have to apologize, I thought you said somewhere you did 4.5k or so DPS as Frost, someone recently said that in defense of Frost.

I understand it's an alt but if you raid, you treat it as a main. I boot people without flying when doing Naxx/Uld because "this is not my main, flying too expensive for alts" is not an excuse. Main, alt, or whatever, if you raid and you're not as good as you can be, don't raid.

Frost has its place in PvE (tons of trash, great in Spider Wing of Naxx, Decon adds, etc) but overall you want Fire, Frostfire, or Arcane. Frost is simply NOT a raiding spec.

4.5K, yeah, fully raid buffed minus flask on Patchwerk. That is nothing to be impressed by. In my current gear level, the DPS difference between a deep fire build and frost is around 200. I've tested this. On Patch, I do around 4800 in my Deep Fire build with some lucky procs.
I can try and get a DPS screenshot next time we do patch if you'd REALLY like. I'll put a sticky note on my monitor.

Honestly, I don't see the point. DPS is DPS. When someone REALLY knows their class and spec, and LIKES it, they can do well at it for what it can offer.

On Elitist Jerks, in the frost thread, there's some math going on that in a perfect environment, with some certain gear, frost with ghosted foflances and brainfreezes, is around 12% behind fire. That's a HUGE gap, but it's high enough to stay competent for 10 man ulduar, barring a couple demanding hard modes.

WoW is still a game. I like to have fun while having a challenge when I play games, and timing the perfect FoFlance is pretty damn fun to me, and a mechanic that I haven't found in any other class / spec.
