I’m preparing to level a DK alt. I’ve bought xp-increasing chest and shoulder armor, so I expect it to be a pretty fast grind. I’m going to level as blood, because I like the extra self-healing options.

I’ve played with the talent calculators some, and noticed that it’s possible to pick up Unholy Blight if you skip Dancing Rune Weapon. Figure in a Glyph of Dark Death and the Death Coil talents from both the blood and early unholy trees, and it looks like you’d throw out a solid amount of damage in Death Coils. Is this a viable build, or does DRW do way more damage than boosted DCs could ever pump out?

If you do a Death Strike when DRW is up, are you healed from the DRW’s strike as well as from your own? Does the DS glyph modify both strikes?

When Heart Strike hits two targets, do both hits have a chance to proc a Death Coil from Sudden Doom?

If you get the Improved Death Strike talent and Glyph of Death Strike, does Death Strike effectively replace Obliterate in your rotation, or is it still done mostly as a self-heal?

I think in a raid setting you'll want DRW because going up into the Unholy tree that far simply doesn't benefit you too much. That said, it might work for leveling; DRW is nothing more than an on-command burst tool.

No, and yes, I think. You can see the DRW as a pet, afaik it's got it's own "threat table" (but since it can't be attacked this means there's no threat at all) and effects that hit the 'caster' hit the weapon instead.

Yes.

Yup, it replaces Obliterate. Pretty much every spec has one 'cheap hit' ability that costs 1 rune/runic power and one 'big hit' ability that costs 2 runes. For blood, Heart Strike is your cheap hit and Death Strike is your big hit. As frost you go for Frost Strike and Obliterate and as unholy you go for Blood Strike and Scourge Strike (unless you play the unholy+ob spec, but don't worry about that just yet).

DRW is good for standing in one place fights, mobile fights UB spec is rather nice. Honestly, many fights now are not melee friendly.

DRW is good if you get to use the raids heroisms/bloodlusts. 50/0/21 is overall a nice spec, low maintenance. While 51/0/20 is higher DPS on stationary fights.

Unholy Blight is a fairly decent ability for fights where you need to be more mobile, but I still have yet to see it out perform my build with DRW. 20% of Death Coil over 10 seconds just really isn't much damage IMO especially when you can't stack up multiple UB debuffs (since casting another DC just refreshes the duration of UB). My Death Coils do a little more than 2k, thus that means my UB will only end up doing 400 damage over 10 seconds. Not all that great imo, but I'm sure others have had much more success than myself with this build.

UB stacks like deep wounds for warriors... so it doesn't just refresh it. It should be doubling or tripling up on the dot.

I've actually had UB ticking for 1 per tick for me at some point, aye. I'm not completely sure how it ticks (even though guildies explained that basically it's the same as if you had multiple stacks of it with 1 stack removing when it's normal timer runs out), but its DPS seems to be fairly void to me.

It's handy to keep healers from drinking and rogues out of stealth, though.

Ah, well I just never seem to notice then. ._. Must be all the diseases and other yellow numbers that pop up so that I end up not being able to tell which is which haha

I'm 50/0/21 specced and am loving it. I didn't like DRW because of it's cooldown and situational uses, whereas the bonus from Unholy Blight is applied whenever you use a Death Coil which is all the time.

I don't run raids at all yet, but run Heroics pretty consistently and go as a tank or DPS for anything. When I DPS I top the meters every time, even today I out DPS a Naxx/ t8.5 geared DK with the 51/0/20 spec by about 250 DPS.

Go with what yo like, with the amount of cash you'll be getting from quests, respeccing won't be a big deal.
