Old World Raiding Build?Follow

#1 Aug 13 2009 at 1:01 AM Rating: Good
Hey everyone, just have a question. Now that you can cap your experience at any point you want up to 80, there's guilds out there that are stopping at 60 and just running old world content. As a person who somedays looks back fondly on the days of MC, ZG, BWL, etc., I decided to join one on the first character I ever played but haven't touched since Vanilla WoW. I have an 80 Hunter that I mainly just PvP with in battlegrounds, wintergrasp, and casual Arena. But I'm having a hard time converting all that is level 80 PvP into the be all end all of level 60 PvE. My questions are, what do you guys think would be the best build nowadays for a player stopping at 60? And are there any resources out and available discussing these topics for hunters and other classes for those silly enough to stop at 60 and try to enjoy old world. Thanks for all of your help.

Why don't you go to wowhead and try out a few specs. Link them here and tell us why you chose what you did. Then we'll give our opinions. Do some work first, don't just come begging. That being said, I look forward to your next post where you will link the specs you made.

One thing you should keep in mind is that 51 and 41 pt talents didn't exist at 60 so you'll have to decide if you only should us 31 pt talents or just use whatever.

That's a great question, and I'm really curious to see what you'll come up with. Smiley: nod

I've been thinking about it a bit myself...I think personally, if I were going to go with 51 points into one tree only, I'd go with Marks. BM seems to rely heavily on picking up Go For The Throat, but picking it up at 60 would close off a lot of options deeper in the BM tree like extra pet talent points and some pet damage boosts. Survival might be okay, too, I'm not really sure how important the usual points in Marks actually are for SV.

Has to be 0/51/0, no build can function without at least 11 points in MM.
And that makes it impossible to pick up the true dps talents in any tree but MM.

I'd take this but mana is going to be a *****.

MM was what I was thinking, Aethien. Mana will be a killer, but I feign/drinked plenty of times before BC. I was a 51 point BM at the time of posting that and my crit % was like 10.57%. Which is horrible. The pet did quite a bit of damage, but without him I was very weak. Sir Xsarus, I promise I spent at least 4 hours last night looking for resources and trying out different builds on the armory page. I apologize if I offended you by asking for opinions or asking if there were resources out there that already covered this (as I said, I looked around for a good while last night). I will try to get back to this with a couple of dps reports from a few different builds. Point values off of gear has changed quite a bit since then as well (was 2ap for 1agi before BC) so I'd like things to be a bit different as I dust off his gear.

you didn't offend me, I was just letting you know that you'd get more people contributing if you submitted something for discussion. Smiley: grin I was busy and too tired to go and experiment with builds myself, but I'd have been happy to look at something you had made and give my thoughts. I also didn't know if you were limiting yourself to 31 pt talents, which some people do and others don't.

I'm honestly not sure if the guild rules will be limiting it to 31pts in a tree. I mean, you could actually put 51 points in Survival back then, you just would've been really, really bad. I know that we can only use old world enchants and old world gear. As alliance we can have Shaman (not sure how I feel on that), but their reasoning is that they were around before BC so they should be included, whereas Death Knights were not. I'm assuming right now as the guild is just coming together that you can go 00/51/00.

I understand being busy and too tired, which is why I'm probably not going to test too much tonight. I spent an hour and a half trying to jump into an instance tonight. While I may not have burnt off many RL calories, I'll tell you, that's exhausting work. I'll be doing DPS trials with a BM, MM, and Surv build with the best rotation I can tomorrow. I get the feeling BM is out though. Beastial Wrath is nice once every 3 minutes, but there's a lot of dead time in the game without steady shot. I suppose that would affect all builds though.

I did dutring BC too, but they fixed it.
It doesn't work on any boss in any instance anymore.
