Going Subtlety early… good/bad/doesn’t matter?Follow

Hi All…

I’m switching servers to play with some friends and decided on playing Rogue. I’ve done a lot of reading on several forums but just want to run some stuff by you all to help me understand the class a little better =)

I plan to use the new exp in BGs feature every now & then on my way to 80. I’m guessing between the mid to higher levels of each bracket I’ll be in BGs a lot. My plan is to go with daggers and mainly dive into Subtlety after 5/5 Dual Wield Spec so I can get some pvp utilities.

Now from what I’ve read I‘m getting the feeling Subtlety really isn’t all that great until higher levels… am I reading into the talents too much or missing some very handy grinding talents that out weigh the early sub talents? My thought is to try and go with a good pvp/pve build until Lv40 when I can learn dual talent and separate them.

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks!

Kz

My advice to you is to spec the Mutilate pvp spec. Go up the assassination tree until you get mutilate, and the put the 5 points in DW spec, and then go up in sub until you get prep/run out of points.

The muti/prep spec is the arena pvp spec at the moment, and it is pretty decent for pve, too. I normally am muti/prep on my rogue while doing my dailies, and I have no problems.

Edit: This is the standard Muti/prep build.

If you dont mind the... possibly 2-10 extra hours of playtime in your leveling.. sure. They are all the same.

If you want the fastest available spec, read above.

It's pretty straightforward and what you pointed out in the first place really was mostly right. Subtlety kind of sucks at the lower levels because you start off with so much utility that is pointless for leveling - Camouflage, Master of Deception, Dirty Tricks... all the way up until Premeditation is stuff that's basically pointless. Add in the fact that subt doesn't give you a proper 'main attack' (Subt is either hemo or backstab and backstab sucks until you can grab all the talents for it) and while it does provide you with loads and loads of utility, it doesn't really help your pure stats and combat.

That said, in the end I guess it doesn't matter too much. The only thing you'll really lose is time. I'd suggest playing combat up to 40ish at which point it becomes worth it (and for PvP necissary) to delve into subt. It's kind of a shame, but combat simply is the only tree that actually has talents that help you when leveling below level 40 or 50.
