Somehow, I knew his main was a DK.Follow

Or, isy's bored Sunday night thread. Smiley: tongue

Just transferred my Troll Hunter to Ursin, so the Armory isn't showing anything for her right now, but once it updates you'll be able to see how crappy her gear is. Mainly lowbie Outland stuff with Northrend AP gems stuffed into every open socket, with a fair scattering of greens. My only decent pieces are the starter Northrend gun and some mail boots out of Nexus.

Anyway, while Ursin is a PvP server, it's low population, so I hadn't run into much in the way of PvP until tonight, when this druid and I happened to cross paths near Kamagua. Much, much better gear quality, and a level higher with over a thousand more health and a much larger mana pool. I would have just ridden past, but he started following me, and well...

I won. 0.o

I killed him twice on my own when we were both at full health and mana, he killed me twice when I was already at half health.

By that point Jon had arrived on his 77 DK since we figured the Druid was pretty close to switching over to his main and we were curious to see what would show up. We were not disappointed... 80 DK, epic gryphon, looked like he was wearing a lot of Ulduar gear. He flew over the town a few times, spotted us, then dropped down.

Right onto the freezing trap I'd dropped earlier (as a joke since srsly no one is dumb/nearsighted enough to run over those, right?) and icecubified himself.

He killed us pretty easily regardless--my trapping him aggroed a town guard onto me, and Jon's DK didn't stand much of a chance anyway--but the last thing I saw before the ugly walrus-men finished me off was him standing still a couple yards away from my hubby's toon, tossing Death Coils at his antimagic shell. Smiley: lol

We went AFK for a sandwich and he was still there when we got back twenty minutes later, flying all over the place waiting for us to rez so he could feel fulfilled.

/pity

TL;DR: isyris killed a better-geared druid in a fair fight even though she sucks at PvP, her opponent didn't seem to have a much better idea of what he was doing on his main either, and then there were sandwiches.

It's good when you have a lvl 80 main with whom you can stomp such people. :P
It's like the final blow to their ego that sends them into a crying rage.

I will say this.

Hunter > Boomkin, most of the time.

But, god damn why do people have to try and camp like retards.

Yeah, boomkins are amongst the easier fights for hunters.
Along with rogues (unless they open on you, but in arenas they shouldn't) and Death Knights.
If you're BM specced, locks are easy and DK's are easier.

You do however want to run from retadins like a little girl.

If you're SV specced, Locks are a total pita.. the only times I kill them one on one in a fair fight is when I completely outplay them and avoid their CC's and nukes with Scatter, FD, Wyvern, traps and deterrence while blasting off my big hitters in between.

But the same goes for healers... clever use of CC's can help me kill them, damage certanly won't do.

Hunter>All, what are you guys talking about?

The only time I've lost against anything in recent memory is when I trinketed out of a Cheap Shot.

I died.

I can sort of understand rogues and maybe boomkins being easy (though really the guy didn't even pop out to cast a couple HoTs on himself so I dunno if I got a fair taste of that) because of the lower armor class, but how are DKs easy? They seem as if they'd be rather hard to kite, and plate armor is kind of frustrating to break through.

95% of all DK's are retards.

Plate armor doesn't do much against explosive shots, more vs BM hunters but well.. pop BW and you're an unstoppable killing machine.

A DK's main ways of getting in melee are Icy Chains, Death Grip and pet stun.
When a DK spams Icy Chains on me, that means he can't use his frost runes for damage and you can keep him out of melee with Pin, concussive shot, scatter shot and if you need to wyvern sting.
If you're out of those, Master's Call gets you a lot of distance quickly.

Death Grip is easy to negate by blowing Disengage right after.
And when you know a Death Grip is coming, use deterrence to block it.
For example if you're forced to disengage early, blowing deterrence right after and the DK will be out of a way to get to you.

And out of the 3 plate classes, DK's are by far the easiest to kite.
Warriors are hard with their constant charging, paladins BoFreedom and /lol at you.

Okay, that makes a lot of sense.Smiley: nod I hadn't made the connection between chains of ice and being able to do less damage, and I didn't realize deterrence could prevent Death Grip. I'm going to have to try that out next time I run into a DK my level.

How do you deal with the ghoul stun, though?

But I'm beee emmm.... Smiley: frown

It seems like most leveling DKs are Blood, though, and I'll be going SV at 80, so I guess that's okay. xD

As long as you're leveling and BM, just pop BW and tear him a new hole.

Works vs any class, guaranteed :P

Hmmm, all this BW talk is really making me rethink leveling as marks.

I want a pet who tears open new @#%^s.

Edit:

Yuppley, trinketing CS makes me lawl. I'm no arena god by any means, but that made me laugh.

Haha, and I've been thinking of switching to Marks so I can pick up Aimed Shot. xD

If you go BM, you must get the BW glyph....it's sexyawesome.

I'm sure once I pick up steady shot I'll finally go BM since it wont be /facearcaneshotkeybind.

Hey, leveling BM totally uses Serpent Sting too. :D

But yeah BM is kinda boring til you get steady. It's fun cause you can pick up the mount speed boost pretty early on, though, and Viper doesn't make you drop so much of your damage, so you don't really have any downtime. Although when I went Marks for a bit around 40 I was doing fine on mana too, had Rapid Killing and Rapid Recovery (might have messed up the name, but the one that regens mana when you get a certain buff) and the Arcane Shot glyph. Hmm.

I used Aimed Shot and Trueshot Aura glyphs and I have rapid recuperation.

So I have almost 0 downtime since I'm constantly aspect switching between hawk/viper in between mobs. Aimed shot with rapid killing crits right now for like 750 at level 46 so most of the time if I get a back to back Aimed Shot/Arcane Shot crit it's like 1300 damage.

I'm really really tempted to go Marks again now (especially since Rapid Fire lines up so nicely with Berserking). That's a nice amount of damage that Aimed + Arcane crits are doing for you at your level, kinda want to see how much I'd be getting out of it at 72. Smiley: nod

Do you find that your pet has trouble holding threat, or do you kill the mobs fast enough that it's not an issue?

Well, yes and no.

When I was using my bear threat wasn't that much of an issue for me but obviously as you level marks you're crit goes through the roof so critting that very first aimed shot for a **** load wasn't helping.

Then I switched over to my raptor and w/o having charge until level 44 I was pulling aggro pretty fast but feign death almost always took care of that.

So now what I've been doing is just unloading on the mob with aimed and arcane, then sending my pet in to charge and taunt. 9 times out of 10 that's more than enough to keep me from pulling off the mob. Usually the mob is like half health anyway so if I do manage to pull aimed shot and arcane came up off cooldown and I can frost trap/cheetah kite and wail on em pretty quick.

BM was fun but didn't teach me much. Marks in my full boa gear has made me learn how to kite because of early aggro issues.

Hmm, doesn't sound too bad (and I do know how to kite at least). I've got a hyena I've been using, I think I'll respec her to pick up charge and give it a try. :)

I have a BM hunter, level 50 or so covered in heirloom gear. Turok the raptor has soloed 3 out of the 4 alliance i've sicced her on so far. No mend pet or shooting, i just was curious what would happen.

Oh yeah, regarding the original post, never give up in world pvp if you get ganked. You can surprise yourself (and the would-be ganker) sometimes by just fighting back ferociously. If you win, just gloat and move on fast before the main turns up.

I ran into a horde hunter in dustwallow back around 42? He got the jump on me with his pet on aggresive so the first time he got me down and killed me.

Well, I was bm at the time so the second I res'd I called up my pet and charged/intimidated/rapid killing him and then proceeded to tear his face from his skull... About 8 times.

I <3 camping!

Aren't traps invisible to anyone but the Hunter?

I've run into many a Freezing Trap because I simply couldn't see the trap anywhere on my screen. Visible traps would be pretty fail since people would, you know, not walk into them.

If people see you dropping a trap though they won't run into it anymore.

Especially freezing arrow...... stupid blizz gives us a fancy looking effect on the one damn ability I really don't want it.
#25REDACTED, Posted: Sep 29 2009 at 2:12 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I almost never use Freezing Arrow in PvP. Well, there was this one time in Eye of the Storm that I used it in front of the flag. Everyone who was there when I shot it went around it, but then another person ran up and went right into it.
