Adventures of Arex: Balance PvPFollow

So, yesterday, seeing as I had the afternoon off from work I decided to level my hunter. So in my normal leveling mood I log off vent, turn up some music and just start mindlessly beating my face into the keyboard while my hunter pew pews.

The second I log onto my hunter a holy paladin in our guild asks me if I want to pvp and I say "Why not Ravi, are you willing to carry me in my balance gear. I'm not resto pvp atm." His answer was simply "Of course!"

So after logging off my aptly named Hunter, Bowjobsyeah. I logged back onto Arex and was looking at my gear thinking, "Should I equip my resto pvp gear and have pretty much no crit? Or do I stay in my balance gear and put some other crit items I have on." I opted for the latter.

So I invited Ravi to my group and asked him to buff me quick to see what I could get my spell power too before we start. I hit about 2800 and thought "4 set t8 bonus... Check. Retarded high spell power... Check. Holy Pally who's soul job is to heal Arex... Check. Respec into stupid balance pvp spec... Check. 10k starfires inc."

So we venture into our first battle ground with high hopes.

My general tactic when Boomkin in pvp is to hang back and be that incredibly annoying Boomkin you've seen in battlegrounds before. The one that sits back and just wails on you with starfire while you're healers aren't paying any attention to you. Well my general tactic seemed to take on a new life of its own.

There we were. Ravi the Magic Seeker, I had heard tales of him defeating the Blue Dragon Aspect Malygos, and myself Arex, the Twilight Vanquisher. The title bestowed upon me for braving the dreaded Obsidian Sanctum and its black drakes.

The two of us braced ourselves for the incoming barrage of the Horde. We first had spotted them from the top of the hill when we we're near the lumbermill. I gave a small prayer to Elune to watch over us, it appeared as if she had heard my prayer and both of us felt the gift she granted upon us.

Ravi muttered some arcane wordage only known by the Paladins and I felt this strange power burst into my body.

"The king sends his blessings."

Cryptic words from a cryptic sect of followers I imagined.

It was only a few moments before they appeared at the crest of the hill. They numbered three in total, two of them seemed to be warriors for the Horde. One was wielding a wicked axe and the other a sword that looked as if the Titan's themselves had forged it in the depths of Ulduar. The other faded from vision in the blink of an eye.

Rogue, I thought to myself. I could already feel the impending dagger in my back.

I could see out of the corner of my Ravi clutching to his mace and shield. His body flushed with holy light, and his eyes... His eyes were glowing with the most pure of conviction. It was clear his mission was to defend this attack upon the lumbermill that was so vital to our efforts in the Basin.

I felt my body malform and readjust itself taking on the form of Elune's own creation. The Owlkin. My feathers were of the deepest purple and I had been adorned horns of the stag. Some would say it was an odd creation, but the power and fury an Owlkin could unleash was devastating.

The time was now.

The warriors charged at Ravi and he deflected the blows away with his shield. I closed my eyes in on one of them and unleashed the power of insects and the wrath of the moonfire upon him. It seemed as if the warrior took no notice to this and I smiled a wry, but lethal smile. With the flick of a wrist I called upon the force of nature. Three treants exploded from the ground and ran at speed towards the warrior. I called upon the fury of the stars to aid me. The stars were falling at intense speeds leaving streaks across the sky. And in the moment I felt the greatest feeling a Druid would ever feel.

Elune's own wrath empowered me and the fire of the star exploded upon the warrior and in that moment he was vanquished.

Ravi had turned his attention upon the rogue that had begun attacking him. The magical shield exploded from his hand and hit the rogue directly in the chest I turned to the rogue and put the fire that the faerie's had bestowed on us. I could see his armor was exposed now. Ravi was able to set the rogue into Justice, with a holy hammer. In this opprotune time I called down once again the fire of the stars upon the rogue. This blow was enough to kill the rogue on the spot.

Our focus was now upon the last warrior. You could see the fear in his eyes as his other comrades had been so easily defeated. The flow of healing coursed through my body as my Paladin friend began to chant mantras of healing.

It was apparent that this last warrior was to be mine.

He charged at me with a ferocity I'd never seen, as he hit me and stunned me for a second he swung his axe and caught me causing me to bleed. This was the moment of truth. The moment I felt a frenzy envelope my body it was if I were a true owlkin. The ground water exploded like a typhoon from my hands knocking the warrior back into the distance, he landed dazed only offering me a few precious seconds of time. The roots of so many plants entrenched his feet locking him into position. The insects assaulted him from every direction in a horrible swarm.

And in this moment, the ultimate feeling exploded. It was if as Elune we're lending her power to me...

...

...The warrior exploded in an arcane fire unlike that I had ever seen. His dying moans drown out by the sound of a mace crashing upon his skull. It appeared the Paladin Ravi had a much harder sense of justice than the likes of I.

The Lumbermill was safe. For now.

This was probably the most fun I had had in a battleground in a long time. Ravi and I we're tearing **** apart and with the four set bonus procing instant cast starfires it is so much fun.

I proc'd two in a row and both of them crit for 12k on this paladin. Two global cooldowns, 24,000 damage. I had an owlkin frenzy proc and was in the middle of eclipse. But GOD DAMN I **** ON THAT PALADINS WORLD.

I hope you all enjoyed the story though, embelishment is fun amirite!

that reminded me of an old story i wrote about this rogue that was ganking people in splintertree post wayyyy back in the day.

i killed him on my druid at the time, then went on my merry way (halfway back across ashenvale, because he led me on quite the chase). the rogue was in his 40's or so. fast forward a few months and the rogue is back, but in his 60's. i hunted him again, on my druid, in an eery recreation of our first fight/chase across ashenvale.

anyways, good story. pve-geared dps casters hurt like the ******* in bgs. my first priority is always always always target the boomkin/elemental shammy/destro lock/arcane mage because if i dont, people start getting blow'd up.

Yeah, after years of PvPing as feral in BG's and dying pretty regularly (they tend to notice you when you are up close and personal), I learned how much fun it is to sit back at range and snipe people on my hunter. There is a sweet tree near one the graveyard just before the bridge in AV that I can stand behind and shoot through the hill at all the alliance defending against the horde attackers. I can often get 10 or 20 kills before they realise I am even there :)

And going resto on my druid in BG's can be a lot of fun as well, it is so much fun to be out numbered 2-1 and realise as the smoke cleared that all the enemy are dead and none of your team are dead due to the force multiplying power of heals. Of course, other times the enemy realise and start targetting you as soon as you appear. Then it is time to switch into feral gear again for a while :)

Its nice to be with a buddy in BGs. My experience a lot has been as boomkin either "ooh see the big owl kill him quick" or rogue stunlock experiences.

However as resto PVP mr boot is firmly on the other foot as the two pallys who spent 5 minutes trying to kill me in Wintergrasp the other day can attest to it made it double funny as when they thought they were getting somewhere an alliance pally turned up and killed both of them while they were wailing on me.
