How does arcane handle more than 1 mob?Follow

Hello all, I am jumping on my mage alt to level up(solo) during my vacation from work and he is a 64 troll now(frost). Leveling is fine as frost, but I want to try arcane as it looks like it might be a fun way to play(don't care about drinking a lot). My question is simple, in Outlands, and especially northrend, you tend to get adds often. My frosty is handling groups pretty easily so far, but what about arcane? It seems like this might be the weak spot as far as leveling. I was thinking of going 51 into arcane, then throwing my points into frost for the AoE stuff...but i don't know. Any thoughts?

I'm not a mage, but I would guess your first resort would be Polymorph, along with Frost Nova if needed. If you can't kill the first mob in that time frame, you're probably playing Arcane wrong, I'd wager.

slow, frost nova, cone of cold, blinking away, blizzarding, pom polymorph, or just bursting one down then the next one.

Instant invis is another option. Mirror Image also works once you get level 80 and are doing dailies. Arcane is a bit weaker leveling spec but it's fun for a while. Give it a shot and see what you think.

Taking out groups of 3 or more is a bit tricky and typically involves poly, frost nova, a quick burst on one of the mobs, then applying slow to the non sheep and killing it off, then finishing the sheep.

The biggest pain in the *** is not mana consumption but rather health depletion, especially against ranged attackers, unless you tend to use mana shield for dmg mitigation. Glyph of evocation is nice for quick health recovery.

I didn't really find myself getting that many adds on the way to 80 but still, frost is a more versatile spec in those situations.

3.2 making invis not suck anymore will be amazing for this. Nothing sucks more than hitting it, then RIGHT before you fade out getting hit, which ruins it and wastes the long CD.

As for 2 mobs at once, just poly one on the pull, toss slow on the other, PoM ABlast -> ABlast -> ABar = dead 99% of the time. Then just wipe up the other one. I love Mage for soloing. I personally could NEVER drop Frost (run, grab 10 mobs, Nova, Blink, Blizz, Profit) but it is nice to change things up.

If you have Prismatic Cloak, Invis is instant cast now, making it perfect for escape. It's not a bad talent for soloing for just that effect, but with the damage reduction, it gives you some of the survivability you miss by not being frost.

I have tried full arcane before and it is not nearly as good as it seems it would be. Sure you get mad amounts of mana and spell damage, but thats where it really ends. The benefit of fire is you get the burning damage and high damage output, and with frost you get slowing/freezing enemies along with mana conservation. Arcane, you dont get much.
