PVE HFB Starting WeaponsFollow

I got around to hitting 80 2-3 days ago and decided HFB seems like a fun spec, plus I could pickup Librarian Paper Cutters from the AH. I always heard they were the best HFB weapons until Naxx, but looking around on shadowpanther.net they don't seem nearly as good as I once thought. Just wondering what opinions are on the ratings from that site, because it lists a few easy to access starter weapons higher then the LPC..which I always thought was best because of it's amazingly fast speed - main hands, and off hands.

So according to shadowpanther, it would seem I should finish my argent tournament grind for a Spinal Destroyer, then put my Titansteel Shanker in the off hand.

What surprised me though, was how high it was rating the Broken Stalactite, even as an off hand weapon it's rating higher for PVE mutilate then a Librarian's Paper Cutter. They are both 130dps, blue level 80 daggers, but the BS has 1.8 speed compared to the LPC's 1.3 speed. I thought having a 1.3 speed would have bumped the LPC to the top of the list, especially for an off hand weapon, at least above every other level 80 blue, but according to shadowpanther I was wrong in that assumption.

Looking over those lists of MH and OH weapons for HfB would you say it's accurate? Or is he placing too much emphasis on the weapon stats alone, and not enough on the actual speed of the weapons?

I've read that the actual speed doesn't matter too much anymore than the overall damage possible. I'll have to find on EJ where I read that though.

dps is more important than speed in a MH weapon for combat and muti; I've also heard that said for OH weapons with muti spec only.

As for why they are rated the way they are, I'll bet it's the hit, attack power, and agility. Haste and crit are further down the priority chain. The Broken Stalactite winds up with 360 MAEP, the Librarian's Paper Cutter only 266.

From Shadowpanther on MAEP vs. AEP:

Shadowpanther wrote:
With the AEP/MAEP system, each stat is given a different weight when compared to Agility. In raiding situations (MAEP), Stamina and Resilience have little to no value when compared to DPS stats, so they're weighted at just a fraction of Agility (for tie-breaking purposes mostly.) However, in PVP, Stamina and Resilience provide necessary defense and survivability, so their AEP values are rated higher than their MAEP weightings.

When looking for gear upgrades, determine what your goal is, then use the chart that works best for you. If your goal is to maximize your PVP gear, then pick items that will give you the largest AEP upgrade. If your goal is to maximize your raid DPS, then select items that will give you the most MAEP.

The Librarian's Paper Cutter devotes a lot of its itemization budget to Stam.

LPC is more poison procs, which is where your damage is made up.

Start with Argent and whatever you have, they need to be replaced pronto anyway.

If you can hit 1850, get those daggers. or at least one. They are on more dps than SR, just less offensive stats.

Alot depends on your enchants. I was testing some things last night:

MH - Sinister Revenge - Berserking
OH - LPC - Mongoose
20 Exp
296 Hit
4pc T8

Unbuffed on raid target dummy - 5 minutes - 3100-3150dps

Same stats but switched OH w/ Titansteel Shanker - Titanium Weapon Chain (my pvp weapon)
324 Hit

Unbuffed on raid target dummy - 5 minutes - 2950-3000dps

MH-IP OH-DP

Mongoose and the 1.3 vs 1.6 speed more than makes up for the dps difference on the two weapons. With the 1.6 speed, I spent alot of time waiting to for DP stacks to build up. These numbers aren't perfected yet either, as I'm trying to increase my rupture uptime w/ the new crit bonus. That and I don't have the glyph yet either. /fail

That and 5 minutes is a terrible dps parse time.

2-3 abnormal crits will offset that by a few hundred.

But yea, even over an hour LPC is gonna pull ahead.
