dual specFollow

I'm currently a lvl 53 dual wielding enhancement shaman and was looking into dual speccing resto for healing instances. I know I can continue to heal when necessary as enhancement at this level but I'd like to practice as full resto so later on I'll be ready. Can anyone give me any pointers on dual speccing talent-wise....would it be easier to go elemental/ resto due to gear?
And on another note....I'm not sure of the proper ettiquite for this situation: I'm in a dungeon and I'm the healer and a really nice 2h wep drops that I can use on the same toon but when I'm dps...is it ok to roll for it?

thanks for the input

If you're dual speccing to heal, you might as well go proper resto. You'll have your enhancement build for solo and dps in groups and then if the group needs a healer, you go resto. I don't see a need for a hybrid healer build under a dual spec situation.

As for gear, you need to iron that out at the beginning of the run on a group by group basis. My expectation in groups is that priority goes based on the role you're performing in that current party unless you speak up beforehand and say that you're running as off-spec and would prefer looting privileges on main spec gear. If that's the case, my expectation is that you're not thinking that you're now all of a sudden entitled to roll for gear for both specs (ie. the group knows I'm enhancement main spec and that I'd like to roll on gear appropriate for that build, but that piece that just dropped would be a nice addition to my healing set so I'm going to roll on it even though the mage/boomkin/shadow priest also wants it.)

One of the concerns brought up with the dual spec system was the potential for people to show up to groups expecting equal privileges for both of their specs, and that doesn't fly. I think you'll find yourself having to choose at the beginning of a run what spec you want to focus on and get used to the idea of seeing gear for your alternate spec go to other players without you having been given an opportunity to roll for it.

I totally agree with Aurelius.

With the dual spec system, they eliminated the need for hybrids. If you're going to pay the 1k gold to do it, please, for the sake of your group, do it all the way. Shammies are the weakest healing class as it is, so if you're going to be the healer, you'll need every advantage you can get from the resto tree.

As to the gear ettiquite, I would say that if you're there as the healer, then you roll on the healing gear unless you've discussed it with the group ahead of time. If they're ok with you rolling on dps gear, then great, if they're not then you're just going to cause alot of bad blood.

Have fun!

I don't know where you guys are thinking he plans to hybridize, unless you read the elemental/resto part wrong. Incidentally, it probably would be easier to dual spec that way, but I don't think you'll run into any issues just trying to gear up enhancement/resto either, so the choice is yours.
