A Tough Gear Swap...Follow

Tanked Hodir last night with only 2 healers(epic battle) and downed him after a few tries with a PuG.

Well when he died I instinctively rolled for Tier Legs token.

Now I hit a problem:

Prot Legs: Dragon Brood Legguards

T8: Valorous Aegis Legguards

29 Str
21 Armor
55 Parry
2 Sockets

vs

17 Sta
16 Defense
18 Dodge
50 Hit

Sockets seems like choice #1 but I have to gem Def for one at least(since I lose def cap). The 50 hit is a big loss, but I don't know how much you need as Prot really.

Armory, please.

Armory here

I also obtained Shieldwall of the Breaker but I need to come up with more Defense before I wear it.

edit:

Tossed Thick Autumns Glow in Crab, Def Chant on Shield and tossed that on. Puts me to a solid 541 Defense. Definitely would need a lot of regemming for new legs, but they do have 2 slots and a lot of str.

Yes, don't forget to get that cloak enchanted ;) Good catch fyredeamon.

That alone would make up for the defense you'd lose by swapping your legs. If you didn't want the defense cloak enchant then you could still gem the legs for defense and come out ahead of your current ones in terms of stamina (a Str/Def gem and Def/Stam gem + the socket bonus makes 159 for the Aegis). Either way the only thing you're missing really is some hit rating. A good trade imo.

EDIT: I hope you don't mind me asking, but you made an interesting decision in your spec with the Ret talents. Do you have mana issues? Don't see many Prots taking Benediction, and lacking at least 1 point in Imp. Judgements makes your rotation a bit off.

I don't mind at all.
For Rotation, I find it very difficult to hit each attack in the alotted time due to GCD lagging slightly for me. When tanking multiple mobs(most of the time I tank) I pop Holy Shield, Conc, Hammer, Judgment, Shield Bash, Exorcism: Repeat.

For some reason my Judgment is always up by the time I hit Hammer again, and without Imp Judgment it is still up early for when I cast it. For 1v1 fights like bosses I can see it being slow(no need for Hammer) and in 3.2 losing Exo will make it required.

As for Benediction it was more for just being sure, like slower pulls(ones you cant use Divine Plea or it will wear and you won't have for next fight) and the fact that EVERY raid should have a Ret for the Crit from Judgment so I didn't see much else to put it in for now.

Also HUGE thanks for catching the cloak.. I have NO IDEA how I didn't realize the lack of chant.

Bad rotation is bad.

If you do in fact do exactly that, SoR and HotR are not being used as often as they can, which is a huge damage and threat loss. Especially when tanking packs, you should use HotR every single time it is available, i.e. every 6 seconds.

Standard 969 slowed down 10% because of GCD lag (which corresponds to your situation, where you lose at least 167 ms ever GCD) will still do more damage and generate more threat than what you are doing.

"No need for Hammer" against a single mob? Try again. An ability that, for all intents and purposes, hits for four times tooltip DPS every six seconds is vital for thread and damage even when it doesn't have two extra targets to hit.

The only part of the standard rotation that can be dropped when tanking a single target is Consecration (because it is simply not worth the exorbitant mana cost with only one target).

Between BoS and your having 2/2 Spiritual Attunement, you should not be in danger of going OOM on any such pull even without Benediction. Lord knows I certainly don't have that problem, and I only have 1/2 SA. Heck, on a raid-sized trash pull, BoS alone may even be enough to keep your mana up.

And while you can say that every raid SHOULD have a Ret, it is not true that every raid DOES have a Ret, and in the case of 10-mans it is far more often the case that the raid DOES NOT have a Ret.
