SoV or SoC for raiding and dungeaonsFollow

#1 Jul 15 2009 at 5:23 AM Rating: Decent
Which is better for a ret pally SoV or SoC in terms of dps and overall effectivness in a raid.

other question is if i start the raid with one seal (SoV or SoC) and then i changed it to SoW for mana refill until i have enough then i move back to SoC / SoV would that affect my performance or not (actualy if someone can explain to me the process of stacking and procing i would appreciate it very much),

so far all that i do is try not to have any lag between the CDs and always have something to use (EX-CS-Judg-DS-CONS-HoW)that is why i use up a lot of mana and i see flat damage up to 2.4K at a certian point and i don't know where did this damage come from (i am lvl 65 with the full fel iron plate set and using Hellreaver so how can my damage get up so high and how can i calculate my dps

Hellreaver
Two-Hand Polearm
187 - 281 Damage Speed 3.40
(68.8 damage per second)
+30 Strength
+27 Stamina
Durability 100 / 100
Requires Level 60
Equip: Improves critical strike rating by 25 (0.5% at 80).

AP:1250
Crit hit chance: 20.5%
hit rating : 15

Until patch there is no Seal but Blood/Martyr.
...unless you are too low for it. Then I'd go SoC.

Why does Blizz do anything?
It's TOO good so Blizz is removing it.

Historically, up until a very recent patch level, all paladins had access to mana regen through Spiritual Attunement. Even Holy paladins would work things to get some mana back by making sure that they didn't heal themselves when they didn't have to (SA only works on heals from others). SA was an even more important gear in the mana machine for Ret, and the emo self-damage component of SoB/SotM played right into that.

Since there was a downside (the self-damage), SoB/SotM was allowed to be the best burst damage seal - and on certain fights (e.g. Thaddius, Loatheb) where there were large damage multipliers available, Ret had to watch themselves to avoid suicide through self-cutting. SoB/SotM was generally accepted as the best raiding seal, and good enough that there was no real reason to switch to another even when soloing.

Then came the "tuning" of Ret. For PvP, Blizzard is curbing Ret's "burst" damage, which makes the high initial damage of SoB/SotM a no-no. And for PvE, they're trying to make mana regen more consistent and self-determined, thus the removal of SA, so the self-damage component has no more use. So, as of 3.2, SoB/SotM would be a gimmick version of SoC anyway.
