Hunter soloingFollow

It has been quite a while since I played on my hunter. I stopped playing it when wotlk beta came out. Needless to say ALOT has changed. Hunter talents, different types of pets, and now they get their own talent tree. My hunter is 60 and I am going to solo quests to level 80. Before I get ram blasted for not reading the faqs I wanted to let you know I have. But I was unable to find a few questions. First of I was trying to find what is the best type of pet to use strictly for soloing. The closest thing I could find said use bear, or gorilla, so does this mean tenacity pets are your best bet? Is there that much of a difference between pet types while soloing? Will they all work ok? And I have looked everywhere (sorry if I am blind) but I have not been able to find what talent tree to use. I used to use BM for soloing is it still that way? Only thing I have been able to find says surv is best for dps, is it also best for solo? I can find out best specs to use once I know roughly what tree to use. Thx in advanced.

There's an [enter] button on your keyboard, try it out.
Your post is well written, but not using that one button makes it almost unreadable.

That said, Bears or other tenacity pets are the best pets for soloing but anything will work.
Beast Mastery is the best spec for soloing, but anything will work.

I can state exactly what pet is best.

The best pet for you is the one you like playing with.

My best pet of choice is any of my pets.

I have seen the pet question asked so many times i can state it makes no difference at all as you can use any of them solo , i can agree some are better for groups of mobs ( tenacity pets ) as they have a little more health and of course they tend to have ways to attract mobs to them but its not only tenacity pets that have ways of annoying groups to attack them.

The pure dps ( ferocity ) pets do a little more damage and of course have slightly less health but you can still attack groups if you so wish , in fact the only problem that might happen is the mobs splitting up and half of them attacking you which should not be a problem unless you are not ready for that.

The cunning pets have a good mixture of attacks so are now really viable and can be very good for PvP its all up to the way you use them to your best advantage.

I have 5 pets on my main at 73 i doubt i can better as i like playing with them all , from a white gorilla that takes on a life of his own and pummels everything in his way that took me a few days in that cave in ungoro? crater to get , to a silithid i like with its crazy idle dance animations to a warp stalker that i got just because i like the attack animations , to anyone that has been jumped by one or two of them you know what i mean.

I also have a wasp and a cat i like to play with and all are great fun so you have the perfect chance now to explore pet families , i would try them all out if i was you as with the changes they have done its more a matter of personal choice , on my hunters i have tried out all the pet families and on each hunter i have different pets and they all work fine for solo use , depending on which pet you get you may gain or lose a few dps but not enough to notice , you also may gain or lose a little health but of course with the new pet talents that can be adjusted for more damage or health , which is why there is no longer a best pet for solo use.

I find flying pets can be annoying after a while and large pets are also annoying as both can interrupt my targeting at times but that is my personal preference as i also dislike the over large male characters some races have.

So go out and spend a few hours trying out the different pet families then once you have found ones you like pick a colour and go tame one as you may as well have something you like next to you.

I am in the same position as the OP.

I recently logged on to my lvl 50 Hunter and pushed him up to 58 and into Outland.

The last time I played this toon was way back in Vanilla. One would think, after such a long absence from a class, I would have done some reading and caught myself up on the changes hunters have gone through.

I didn't.

So after a frantic couple of days and 8 or so levels I figured out how to give my cat some talent points.

Thankfully, I didn't subject anyone else to my woeful lack of hunter skill by trying to get in an instance run.

What I DID do was:
-spent a lot of time fumbling with ammo
-forgetting to dismiss pet before hoping down ledges
-run out of ammo
-forget traps (I forgot them entirely for the first 2-3 levels. Me: "what is that frost nova-looking thing on my cast bar?......OH a TRAP!")

and many other Huntard-like moves.

Soooo here I am. In the Hunter Forums.

If anyone needs me I will be reading the Hunter FAQ (again).

Pets are most certainly a personal preference for the most part, and don't fall into the trap of believing that any one pet is the best for any situation, there has been a lot of >blah blah< about wolves being THE raid/solo pet, and yes the damage pluses to all raid members in range is nice you shouldn't forget that EACH pet family now has special skills and some quite honestly put the wolves' howl to shame in certain situations even as a raid.

Don't get me wrong wolves are still a great choice, and easy to find I just think that they are being too highly regarded as the raid pet of choice...extra DPS helps the raid/solo hunter but so will some of the other pets specials....

Carrion Birds have Demoralizing Screech which lowers all enemies within melee range attack power by over 200+ and it has a measely 20 second cooldown

Birds of prey have Snatch >i think thats the skill name< that disarms a target, insanely effective against some bosses that are weapon reliant

Gorillas have an insane ability to hold agro from multiple mobs and have a skill that allows for the interuptions of spells with an attached debuff that disallows target from casting anything from same path of magic for a little while making it a great anti caster PvP pet as well as good tank/solo pet AND special duty raid pet

Devilsaurs have a potential for huge DPS and decent armor/HP but can only seem to effectivly hold agro from one or two mobs at a time without alot of Player controled target switching. Despite that they can be very impressive if used right.

CATS!! The old ones are still great pets, good DPS, good agro hold, with the talent system can have decent armor and HP as well as sheer attack speed...the speed of thier attacks still places them among the better anti-caster pets, and thier stealth in addition to "Eyes of the Beast" can allow you to scout areas that would be hard to just saunter into especially as a solo.

Crabs have >Pin< which holds a target in place and causes damage over a short duration, which is great when fighting fleeing enemies and those with >counter attacks< that jump them all over the place and for allowing you to hold a target that has switched agro long enough for appropriate pet or party member to take agro back (In the case of a solo hunter it allows enough time for you to disengage and let the crab reclaim agro.)

Turtles! As a solo hunter a turtle is amazing, it holds agro well against limited numbers of mobs and is literally a tank on legs, huge armor potential high HP potential and a defensive skill that greatly reduces the damage it recieves.

Yes the flyers and large pets can get in the way of targeting, but the "F" key has an easy to find nub on it and will target the target of your target....um just click on the darn pet and hit F to attack whatever the pet is focused on or TAB threw the available enemies until you target the one you wanted.

wow-petopia.com or what ever the new site address is can really help you in the decision as it has the talent trees and special skills of each class of beast and a great catalogue of images to help you pick the PRECISE pet you want down to color and animations behaviors in some cases>Uhk'Loc the white gorilla from the cave in Un'Gorro does scratch his *** alot more then any of the other gorillas<...color changing wolves and silithids to the rare/elite and unique models for each type, you can also look up Olm The Wise, only pet in the game with a FACTION it belongs to before taming

Even though I haven't played in a month, I'm pretty sure that wolves and crabs are still the best for a min/maxer or someone who wants to be good at PvP.

PS, pre-MOVEMENT speed normalization pretty much every pet was special, then most were taken away. After attack speed normalization, there were still a few, like King Bangalesh (wtf was his real name?) cuz he had Cobra Strikes (also don't remember if it was called that, and he ACTUALLY had it at the start of BC and for a bit) when no other pet did.

Like, Lupos was sweet, there was one with some other damage type too, I'm positive. The ZF snake was rare for what it was, takk the leaper was cool cuz he was a mother@#%^ing dinosaur AND he was fast, and things like AV wolves, the timberwolves, BT and the ZG bat were all special.

Though, when the ZG bat was released, everyone got it because there was no point in getting anything else.

Spirit Wolves are the equivalent now I guess (to the ZF snake dude).

@#%^ I don't have any idea what I'm talking about so sorry about the terrible grammar, formatting, and rambling

Wrong!
Beastcleave/Zoocleave is the new PvP trend with BM + Enh shaman/DK + Hpal/Dpriest.

Oh my God, the first picture on that page was a picture of two giraffes smirking at me.

What's more funny than that?

Hahahaha!

Edit:

I was serious about the English thing, you have some of the best English I've seen.

If it's your first language though, don't tell me cuz then I'll feel all weird for complementing you.

I've been using the same kitty since I found it in winterspring all that time ago.

Holds aggro like no ones business, don't forget your beast has talents now too!

My little kitty is almost immortal thanks to talents. 20% chance on hit to regain 75 health (most of the time it's constant regen), and has a self rez that can bring it back to life with full health. Solo'd tusker at even level with her and I'm not highly equipped by any means.
