switching from holy to protFollow

#1 Jul 11 2009 at 12:20 AM Rating: Good
Hello paly board, long time listener, first time caller :)

So my guild has asked me to swicth from holy to prot for our Ulduar 10 grp.
Her's my armory: [http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Aszune&n=Yogibean]

I've tanked hc's and naxx before but never Ulduar, and we're not that hardcore so have only downed 9 bosses in Ulduar.
I'm looking to tweak my gear, so would like your 2 cents.
I got 31k hp unbuffed, 540 def and 109 combined avoidance, all avoidance is from gear not enchants. I've allmost only gemmed for stam because I love a big hp pool.
My hit is 161 and expertise 15.
So my question is should I re-gem for some hit, exp, dodge etc., or is the big hp-pool the way to go?

(btw I'm JC but I'm not worrying about the JG nerf yet)

Well, for some reason your Armory won't show up for me, but going by what you said about your stats: no, keep the stam gems. You're ~7% avoidance over the "block cap", so the only thing you can really do avoidance wise would be to exchange block rating gear for dodge/parry gear. Hit and expertise, while good, aren't extremely important for us, so you look good with the numbers you've posted. It wouldn't hurt for them to be a little bit higher, but imo there's no reason to gem/enchant for those stats at all.

Without being able to access your Armory, I'd say you're fine the way you are.

Maulgak, take the ] off he back of the URL.

You don't have 540 Defense, you have 517 according to the armory. You do have 579 Defense RATING, but the relationship is NOT 1:1.

You're crittable and your "avoidance" (parry/dodge/miss) is very low. Stam is nice, but the "Icebane" pieces are terrible, even for a starting tank, because they lack actual defensive stats. You're going to need some defensive gems and enchants if you want to be a viable tank. Don't bother with hit/exp. They'll come naturally.

I'm switching too btw but not cause my guild wanted me to I just prefer tanking.

When i checked he was at 540 def (689 rating) and has about 99% avoidance (w/HS up).

Wowheroes says you are at the level for tanking Ulduar 10 so it's up to your healers to see how far you can tank. I actually have LESS HP than you do but more dodge. I'm working on trying to get more HP while keeping my avoidance where it is. Also trying to get hitcap for threat since I'm trying to gear for hardmodes.

I would say for you to get a bit more avoidance to cap it off and work on your stam. Hit rating comes in bundles with some of the Emblem of Conquest tanking pieces.

Hey guys, thx for the answers and the help :)

I was messing around with fr gear for hodir fight, but I should be in my normal tank gear now.
Gonna try to pick up a little more dodge, and then I'll see how it goes :)

I think their Armory was having maint. when I first checked cause I took away the bracket and it still didn't work =/ Now that it's up (and I can see it ... lol): 2 things I would suggest you try. Get Valor Medal of the First War. That, because you still have the level 70 Libram, should take you to block cap with Holy Shield. Replace the Essence since it has less stam than your JC trinket. The other is to re-enchant your weapon with either Potency (+20 strength) or, if you really want the hit rating, with Accuracy. As far as I know the disarm reduction does not stack with that of your Pursuit of Justice talent. And, how often does that happen anyway? ;)
