Pally tanking the OS adds is HELL. We have, really, two aoe attacks. One of them is on an 8 second cooldown, the other is only usable in absolute melee range. The 8 second cooldown, Consecration, has another disadvantage in that once used, it's in the same place for 8 seconds, doing very minor damage every tick, which adds up by the end of consecrate. The problem is, the adds are EVERYWHERE in Sarth (specifically the elementals). We can maybe use our single taunt on one, and our 3 man taunt on another, but it's possible that if we use our 3 man taunt on a fireball, we could taunt Sarth (don't ask, just know the mechanics are retarded).

9/10 times, my guild uses a Warrior tank for adds in that particular fight because of their versatility (Taunts on cooldown? TC and SW on cooldown? Fine, they just pull a juggernaut on an ele and charge it, then intervene a healer to get back to the center. WTF.) Warriors always have been, and still are, the most -versatile- tanks in WoW. Someday I'll have mine levelled thanks to this subforum's help ;_;

warriors can tank aoe, up to 3 mobs easily, 4 with work, 5 with concentration. thunderclap and shockwave are decent at hitting anything in its way. cleave hits up to 3 with a glyph, and you you can use the glyph that puts a sunder on a nearby opponent, and just simply tab your way though. if you have the cleave glyph, sunder glyph, and double sunder glyph, you can keep 5 mobs down. i tank emalons adds all the time.

This was true in the last expansion. Now 5 can be done while sleepwalking if you have DPS who aren't touched in the head, and the mobs aren't overly dangerous.

Warrior tanks have all the tools they need to AoE tank effectively. I think a big part of the "meh warrior tank" that I see these days is a result of a couple of things.

First, dps aren't the only characters that can be clueless in a group. You know those crazy cats that show up to heroics in 90% epics and still struggle to break 1500 dps? Is there any logical reason to assume that tanks are any different? (That goes for all tanks, not just warriors). It's not just about the tools a class is given to tank with...it's about how they use them. It's about how adept they are at monitoring what's going on around them and how dynamic they can be when the situation deviates from the basic Pull -> Spam abilities -> Loot scenario. It's about their understanding of game mechanics and in the case of a tank, specifically about threat mechanics.

Second, warrior tanks had their role handed to them in TBC due to the way the different tanking classes were set up. That created a lot of complacent warrior tanks who suddenly arrive in WotLK and find themselves directly competing with every other tank class for their shot to tank the biggest nasties in the game. Now all of a sudden skill is a larger component than simply the fact that you're a warrior. I've run with some very skilled warrior tanks. I've also run with warrior tanks who struggled to achieve mediocrity...just as I've run with pally, druid, and DK tanks who struggled with the same thing.

Warriors are a very reactive class compared to a lot of others. A lot of their abilities are triggered based on the circumstances and you can miss out on threat opportunities as a tank if you're not attentive. Compare that to a pally tank where everything works on a fairly straightforward rotation and while I'll happily admit pallies have a much easier time of maintaining threat in AoE situations, there's a difference between saying, "Pallies have it easier but warriors can still be successful" and "Pallies have it easier so that makes warriors bad."
