A little confused on maximizing dpsFollow

Ok I'm not 80 yet. Level 78.

Right now I prefer MM because I'm not comfortable yet with one of my major shots being on the same cool down as my traps.

I'm over 300 Hit Rating, and I'm going to stay here for a bit because I anticipate losing some of that with some upcoming 80's gear. (which happened with my mage)

My general shot rotation is: serpent->chimera->aimed->arcane->steady

Now my question is regarding Rapid Fire (boss fights). I'm assuming RF, and Readiness are part of the MM spec to be taken advantage of for dps. Now, while RF is up, is it best to spam Steady? This is what I've been doing, considering that playing whack-a-mole with my other shots on GCD is only going to waste that time.

Am I correct?

Steady shot is a worthless shot, and should only ever be used if nothing else is available.
(except for Armor Pen stacking MM, but that requires nearly full ilevel226 gear)

Basically, what you do at the start of a fight is:
(Hunter's Mark > Serpent Sting >) Chimera Shot > Aimed Shot > Arcane Shot > Rapid Fire > Readiness > Chimera Shot > Aimed > Arcane and then once Rapid Fire ends, RF again.

If the fight is more than 3 minutes, wait with using Readiness until Rapid Fire is off cooldown and you can do the above again (unless the boss is on the verge of dying of course)

I think you mean:

(Hunter's Mark > Serpent Sting >) Silencing Shot > Rapid Fire > Chimera Shot > (Kill Shot) > Aimed > Readiness > Silence > Chimera > Aimed > Steady Shot and then once Rapid Fire ends, RF again.

I seriously have no idea why you'd do your rotation the way that you do (except for Arcane, don't lecture me on that).

Edit: The underlined things are obviously just there showing what happens when you pop readiness. Disregard Silencing Shot too.

Go look around on EJ (or even TKA), it's probably more helpful than us if you want to min/max.

i don't understand why people shoot chimera so early...i must be missing something because it refreshes your serpent sting...so wouldn't it be better to do it last on your rotation when serpent is at about 3 sec rather than refresh it after 1 tick?

I'm experimenting with MM right now so I don't know much about it.

Serpent Sting lasts 21 seconds, Chimera shot has a 10(9) second cooldown.
Chimera shot is your hardest hitting shot.

And Yuppley, the reason I said it like that is because in general, the first few seconds of a fight you're positioning yourself. (well, not on Patch)
There I already shoot my big instants, so I can start dps earlier.

And I don't mention silencing shot as it should be macro'd into your other shots.

How or what are you macroing Silencing Shot into? I JUST got into macroing so I'm playing with crap around, i have silencing macroed into steady right now but can't seem to get it to cast right away, this is what it looks like

#showtooltip Steady Shot
/console Sound_EnableSFX 0
/cast !Auto shot
/cast [target=pettarget, exists] Kill command
/cast Steady Shot
/cast Silencing Shot
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()
/console Sound_EnableSFX 1

I don't know if I even need the effect **** in there, like i said i'm new, but i basically have to spam the **** out of the macro to get silencing to shoot

I'm not great with macros, but is it possible that switching Silencing Shot to go before Steady Shot in your macro would have the desired effect?

I would guess that's because it's an instant, non-gcd spell just like kill command (hence why you'd want to macro it in to begin with).

Glad it works that way, at least. Smiley: smile

I just don't know if i want it macro'ed on steady shot or something else, since steady is the filler between shots, it seems better to make it steady but i'm not an expert so i don't know.

I think the idea is to macro it to all of your shots so that it's always being used as soon as it's off cooldown and you don't have to worry about it at all.

I needed a new sig and I couldn't resist, I was laughing for like ten minutes when I read it...I called the hubby over to show him too but he didn't get why I thought it was so funny. Smiley: frown

Another macro help, better just jacking this thread then starting another, so I found basically an all in one pet macro, to use heart of the phoenix if in combat and dead, call pet if he's not there, revive if he's dead and mend if he's injured.

Here is the macro

#showtooltip
/cast [combat] Heart of the Phoenix
/cast [nopet] Call Pet; [target=pet, dead] Revive Pet
/castsequence [pet, nomodifier, button:1] reset=15 Mend Pet, null

Now the problem is that when my pet is dead, yet not targetable it tries to cast call pet, but since he is dead no pet comes and all he does it just cast call pet, is there a way i can change that to where if he is not targetable and dead to cast revive?

right now i went ahead and just added

/cast [nopet, modifier:ctrl] Revive Pet

We'll see if I remember to actually do it, since it's out of combat it shouldn't be too big of a deal

Edit in a modifier for revive pet and just accept that you'll have to press one extra button to revive your pet.
Once your pet's corpse despawns, the macro can't tell if it's alive or dead anymore.

Edit: yeah, and then you go do what I said right while I'm typing this post, wasting my valuable seconds!

I need to pull out my all-in-one macro and compare--it's been bugging me lately because I set something up weird and it'll let me cast Revive Pet when my pet isn't actually dead (still casts and spends the mana, ugh).

Hehe sorry Aethien!

Lady Isyris this is what I have completed and it seems to work fine

#showtooltip
/cast [combat] Heart of the Phoenix
/cast [nopet, modifier:ctrl] Revive Pet
/cast [nopet] Call Pet; [target=pet, dead] Revive Pet
/castsequence [pet, nomodifier, button:1] reset=15 Mend Pet, null

I haven't actually tried the heart of the phoenix part yet but i'm sure it should work

Why are we wasting a point into silencing?

Why are we macro'ing it to shoot once off CD? Isnt this a waste of mana? If you have your steady shot cast the same as GCD is it not better to use steady instead?

You're lucky that people like me and Aethien even have the filter set to "Never". It's free DPS, why wouldn't you use it? It's like, cast it and no matter what your DPS increases. Pretty simple stuff, if it doesn't trigger any cooldowns, you use it all the time.

Awesome! Didnt quiet understand it but makes sense. Thanks guys

IMO, go survival until you have ulduar gear. You aren't goin anywhere as MM compared to survival. I was doing 2k dps as surv at lvl 78 on my hunter if that shades you any other way.
