If you are up on your class and a holy paladin, you probably know about this site. If you don't, then you better add it as a bookmark. I like it alot.

They have an article that links to this thread which is perhaps one of the best posts explaining what holy Paladins are currently going through and does it much more effectively (and with less whining) than me!

And here is Ghost Crawlers response

Which shows a complete disconnect between the game developers and the people playing the class. GC has a point, the fact that they have to develop content around our spell is bunk, much like rolling lifeblooms and chain heal/coh made them make encounters like Twins in SWP. The problem he is missing the point the OP made which is pretty damned good, Ulduar hardmodes are designed around HL. So yes, RNG can see your tanks taking four hits of 20-35k within 3 seconds meaning if you are pre-bomb healing your tank they are dead. Even gemming SP, going into prot for + healing bonus etc FoL is just not going to work, like at all for helping tanks stay alive and throwing more healers at the problem isn't going to work just because of the sheer burst on the bosses requires massive preheals and if you are starting a 2 second cast (or even a 1.5) HL its already too late and the bad little hot from fol sacred shield aint helping.

Also comes back to the fact that the other healers have hots, aoe heals etc that handle most splash damage. From personal experience I can raid heal and beat people to the punch and help spike damage on random raid members but I am still going to have a smack tonne of over healing and its a gcd race that doesn't mesh well with healing the tank even with the new Beacon.

This is really kind of lame, and like I said its going to take multiple patches for Blizzard to get paladins right after they completely throw us out of whack in 3.2.

I read that blue by GC a while back, and I had the same impression: are there ever going to be a few patches worth of growing pains. It doesn't bother me that much - I'm reasonably confident it'll get better eventually and I think it'll be kind of fun to see what folks come up with and how we all adapt in the meanwhile - but it sure would bother me if I was one of you hardcore raiding types and it was keeping me from progression after I'd invested what you all invest in it.

This whole trend toward homogenization makes for some strange evolution for classes like this that had such a specialized niche before. It's essentially going to come down to redefining the paladin way of healing entirely, and during that process, they've thrown together this weird jumble of skills that have no real coherence together and that sometimes just seem at odds with the original concept of the class. Kind of like how pretty much everyone gets a fear (Warriors? Really?) and a polymorph now; it seems like they're throwing stuff at gaps ("They need a HOT!") without really giving enough thought beforehand to the big picture.

Bright side: some of the crazy changes as they figure things out are bound to be OP and a lot of fun for a few weeks until they take it away or tweak it. That HOT, for example, might suck for you but it's going to be excellent for me in PVP with my spec. Much like Circle of Healing with no CD. We knew it wouldn't last, but boy howdy was it fun for a few minutes. :)

On Blizzard's side, bosses were designed to counter massive healing throughput and regen. The boss has to hit for stupid amounts of damage to have any chance of killing a tank receiving reliable Holy Light spam.

On the players' side, I have to spam Holy Light to have any realistic chance of not being the cause of a wipe. There's not a single other spell I have that can save a tank from 20k per second. And even then he might just die.

You can't just reduce the healing players can do and hope that current hardmodes don't become impossible. I wouldn't be too surprised if they make Ice Crown comparatively light on damage and reduce healing to compensate enough that Ulduar just doesn't work anymore.
