Hey there pally tanks. I just hit 80 a while back and am gearing up to run heroics with my small guild (not really enought people on during the day to do 10-mans or anything).

I am currently at 538 defense and about 21K HP unbuffed.

My issue is that I need to grind out some Argent Crusade rep the next few days to get the head enchant (+37 STA/ +20 DEF) I bought my tabard and am now looking for lvl 80 dungeons to champion for them.

Any suggestions?

Also I had been running dailies in Icecrown, but when I went to do my Assault by Air (and Ground), the ground attack wasn't available, can you only do this so many times?

Is there a stickied guide on where Faction dailies are located? Because I think I am about 6500/21000 till revered (all I want really)

Thanks guys.

Unless i'm taking crazy pills - 535 Def is "Def Cap" for heroics.

Start running UK, Nex, and maybe try our some CoS (Depends on healer)

535 = Heroic
540 = Raids

Oh cool, thank you. I guess I had a brain fart and forgot that heroics had a lower defense requirement.

Always accepting advice if anyone wants to chime in.

You need way more health for heroics. 21k is really low. Link your armor and we can see some easy gear upgrades for you.

Don't be afraid to try heroics. Wiping doesnt cause any permanent damage (except for repair bills ofc.), and there's no better way to learn than to try. Besides, you'll get better gear as soon as you start doing them. Try to start with the easy ones first.

Oh, and if you need further info on (pre-)heroic gear; check this one
It has info about all the pre-heroic blue gear, (which you can filter out to find the prot gear), heroic gear, and a synopsis about the tacts inside.

Regular UP and HoL. You can start running them and getting tabard rep as early as level 76.

Troll Patrol (in Zul'Drak) is also a nice easy way to add some rep and cash. You'll get ~40-50 gold (forget the exact amount) and 700 rep with Argent Crusade if you finish in under 20 min (doable even without an epic flyer).

HoL (normal) would be a good one to grind rep on because the final boss drops a trinket with +65 defense.

About the ground assault quest, I "think" that if someone has done the quest recently you have to wait for the NPCs to respawn before you can do the quest. There have been times when I've gone down there and the quest hasn't been available, but then I go back later, and it's there. If someone could confirm this or correct me on this that would be great, but I do know that it's not like you do it X times and can't do it anymore.

And as far as faction quests go, here is a link to wowhead's page on the Argent Crusade faction. It should take you right to the quests tab. This lists all quests that offer Argent Crusade rep, including dailies, and what zone they are in.

Cheers :)

I started running heroics at 80 with about 21k hp, 540ish defense, and did fine. As long as you have a good idea of what you're doing, and a solid group behind you (an awesome healer helps, but that's a bonus), you'll do fine. Familiarize yourself with the instance on regular mode first, take your time with pulls, and don't be afraid to ask questions of more experienced group/guild members. That's how I roll, and I'm getting pretty popular, so it works!

I would like to thank everyone for all the great advice youve given me.

Give me a sec and Ill post my armory.

I have the Tempered Titansteel Treads in the mail. And I know the Earthguard Ring isnt that great but I liked being able to throw a +24 Stam Gem in it.

Im thinking of switching my meta to the Austere Earthguard Diamond for the Stam, since ill pick the Defense back up once I get my head, shoulder, and titanweave enchants.

Here is my armory, please take a look and give some feedback.

Oh, yeah, btw, i know my spec is gimped, going to change it soon.

Thanks again guys

Strange suggestion for now if you're looking for stam for a run or two: Arcanum of Toxic Warding. +30 Stamina and only requires Ebon Blade honored, which you have.

Replace the +16 STR gem in your neck piece with Regal Twilight Opal if you're using it for your meta requirement, same with the belt buckle.

Combine you'd pick up 54 stamina right there. Grab a few cheap enchants (boots, +stamina armor kits if nothing else) and you could easily be in the 100 stamina range, without breaking the bank. Just a thought.

The healer will make a BIG difference in how good you can tank a heroic.

I've done H-Nex and H-UK a number of times now, and have had a few smooth runs, but yet a few runs where we barely managed to pull it off by the skin of our teeth.

A good healer will keep you above 50% HP at all times.
A Bad Healer will let you go to critical HP on every trash pull and barely pull you out alive, and make it look like you can't handle the instance.

I've been told I'm Naxx-ready at least as an OT. I have 26.6k health, 541 def, and I think some 80% combined avoidance with Holy Shield up. But yet sometimes when I run something as simple as HUK, I almost die on half of the group pulls in there, and it took me awhile to figure out, it was the healer's fault.

I even ran a H-DTK with an Ulduar-geared druid healer... and damn, we even downed Dred with no problems whatsoever.

The DPS will also have an affect, faster you kill the mobs, the less time is spent tanking them. But more than anything, the healer is important. An ulduar-geared healer could likely keep a 16k health person alive in a heroic, as long as they had the 535 Defense. A healer who is barely heroics? Yeah, you're gonna need a better tanking setup....

You need to be prepared with every pull too. If your healer is incompetent then you need to be on your game. Spells like Divine Protection and LoH are the obvious ones but Hammer of Justice (for short CCing), avengers shield (as a silence) are good for working caster trash packs. Remember which spells are magical and which are not (HotR) for when you are silenced and use your human racial to break stuns so that you can maintain some level of avoidance whenever possible. Like others have said already I'd pop 18stam armor patches on as many blues as your able to without dropping below the 535 def.

Regular HoL is a great instance to run for tanks not only for the trinket but for the tanking weapon that drops off the second boss in there too.

Yeah, ive run HoL twice for the sword and trinket (to no avail, no drops yet), which would help a ton. Also, im Power leverling my JC to get one of the ruby hare or something trinkets (the one with the blue and yellow sockets)

Also, if anyone is keeping track and would like to give me some more advice beyond this, please check out my armory above. Or in my other post, i forgot which one it got linked in.

Update: 543 Def
23.6K HP

Ready for some easy heroics?

Oh yeah, as for my belt.

Ive got the girdle of obscuring in my bags, just waiting for the sword or trinket to drop in HoL so my defense doesn't crap out when I switch over... or if i can find some chanter to do greater defense on my chest.

Instead of running HoL for the sword, you can get a better tank weapon out of the Argent Tournament:

Teldrassil Protector (Note, if you're Horde, there's an equivalent weapon by a different name, same stats IIRC).

It doesn't take very long at all to get this; you have to do Aspirant Dailies for 3 days, Valiants' dailies for 5 days, and then the 3rd day of being a Champion should give you enough Seals to buy this weapon.

535 can tank heroics,but id suggest 538,Like Bor said,H UK,H Nex,maybe H CoS(dont do mount run),H UP drops a sexy sword that'll go into 10m udluar,sometimes 25m. You're HP isnt a problem worth fixing until Def capped for raids,to start stuff like 10man Naxx id get 545 defense(the extra 5 goes into parry and dodge)And about 27k hp,for heroics,hp should be about 25k
Defense for H Nex/Occ should be 540,unless you got a REALLY good shammy/druid healer or a good pally healer, priest, maybe, they are useful for the HP increase. Also,in H AN a REALLY good trinket drops off 2nd boss, farm it every day till you get it IMO.

run reg HoL for the trinket with the H AN one,the sword is preety much useless compared to the H UP one,http://www.wowarmory.com/item-info.xml?i=37401 IMO put potnecy on it,which is rare, but the str increases your block, which is really useful, but again very few enchanters have it,use the weapon chain until then
